Alternatives to Etymotic HF2
Quote: Hi pacman46, I got hold of my HF2s a couple of days back. First impression was "Is this even half as good as people rate it ?" I was coming bk frm the airport and had tried them on with the default 'smaller' tips. I was not getting a proper fit, no isolation. I was on the...- Nachiket

Alternatives to Etymotic HF2
If u can wait for a couple of weeks, just let me know, I will give u my first hand opinion on the HF2s which will reach me by the end of the month (I live in India).. However, as far as I have read, you can't go wrong with the HF2s except if u want a lot of bass. If bass is more important...- Nachiket

best player and so so headphones, or best headphones and so so player. Advice before I buy please.
Well, the chain goes like this .... Audio format => DAC => Amp => Headphones The chain is only as strong as the weakest link So, for truly great sound, all stages must be taken care of. I am assuming you have at least 320 KBPS or equivalent audio. However, for some constraints...- Nachiket

Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones
Well, I had ordered my first pair of decent headphones a year back through my brother who was returning from the US. I had a a decent idea of what good sounding cans are like having tried out some in the 200 $ range. But my bro was completely oblivious to the difference one can expect when...- Nachiket

List of Headphones with the same drivers
Quote: Yeah, I too feel that the headphone (like normal speakers) is a system in itself. So just like the same drivers can sound quite different in speakers, the same way, different enclosures, materials, damping and padding must be affecting the final sound of headphones...- Nachiket

List of Headphones with the same drivers
Not sure, but there is a fair amount of concensus that the Koss DJ100 and the Koss Tony Bennette edition share the same drivers..- Nachiket

What is the approximate threshold (in terms of price) for headphones for stagnation of quality improvement for 320 KBPS encoded mp3s ?
Thanks a lot guys. I think your comments make a decent case for me to upgrade. But first I will have to take care of the initial end of the setup given the fact that I have an HD 595 in my armoury but no decent amp(though I do have that namesake amp called FiiO E5 ) to drive it and not to...- Nachiket

What is the approximate threshold (in terms of price) for headphones for stagnation of quality improvement for 320 KBPS encoded mp3s ?
Quote: I definitely salute those who can tell such a difference (pick out FLAC from 320 using their "crappy" laptop speakers.) and by the way, I saw your picks of the Headphone fest at Tokyo... Man, I wish I lived in Japan or the US ...!!! Awesome experience it must have been ..!!- Nachiket

What is the approximate threshold (in terms of price) for headphones for stagnation of quality improvement for 320 KBPS encoded mp3s ?
Quote: Thanks poikkeus for the reply, Yes, I ignored the sound signature aspect but it was for a reason. Personal taste apart, my question was more like will the bass sound tighter as you move up, will the mids be more detailed etc...- Nachiket

What is the approximate threshold (in terms of price) for headphones for stagnation of quality improvement for 320 KBPS encoded mp3s ?
Well, I know the title (or my question) may seem vague, so I will try to elaborate : I assume (based on my reading so far on various forums/sites and some experience ) that the hi-fi world is a world of diminishing returns as we move up the price ladder. In other words, we increasingly...- Nachiket

Can anyone please suggest alternatives to the HD595($150 on amazon) under $200-250 ?
Hi, Even I always thought the same, and so I opted for the HD595 in the end. And I am happy with the same. I guess that the headphone design is pretty similar to the speaker design in the sense that the same driver can sound wonderfully different in different cabinet designs ! ...- Nachiket

Has the fake ath-m50 arrived?
Hi, I think just looking at the price they are quoting, u can expect them to be legit. I say this because I know that the dealer price for the ATH M50 is upwards of $100. However, to make any business sense, he must sell a whole lot of stuff on such a small margin. I would stay away...- Nachiket

Identify these headphones! (Denon fans come in)
Did u ever consider the ATH M50 ? I feel they are the THE CAN u r looking for. They will cost u around $115, are closed and have an excellent response across the spectrum with a slight emphasis on bass. They are the best value for your money around the $ 125 range. This is just my opinion...- Nachiket

EXTREME budget phones--suggestions?
The Sennheiser HD202 would get my vote. They were available around $29 last time I checked. They do come with a wire spindle (I am sure that is not what its called, but its a plastic piece on which u can wind ur excess cable )- Nachiket

Bose, Wesc, or Dr. Dre?
Quote: + 1 for the 'Stay away from...' part. I did try the Bose and it looked WAY overpriced for the SQ. Same for the Beats by Dre....can't comment on the Wesc though... In fact I have a lot of friends in the US who are 'advovates' of BOSE as if it were the ULTIMATE in SQ...(whatever...- Nachiket
