List of Headphones with the same drivers

I had a look at the W3000ANV and my AD2000 from the foam inside the earcups, and they have very very similar-looking drivers. I don't recall what the W5000 drivers look like, but they looked similar as well IIRC.

I find it interesting, the differences you can get from the sound of two identical drivers in a different surround is testiment to the complexity of creating speakers or headphones.

Thats all really.

I'm curious why the OP started this thread. I think it could be useful, but I'd like to know his/her reasons?

Yeah, I too feel that the headphone (like normal speakers) is a system in itself. So just like the same drivers can sound quite different in speakers, the same way, different enclosures, materials, damping and padding must be affecting the final sound of headphones...

They change sizes as you move up the model line iirc. I know the XB1000 stands apart, with it's 70mm driver (nothing else advertises a driver that big), I think the next model down is 50mm, and down from that is 40mm, and so on. May be mistaken.

On the AT note - lots of AT drivers look similar from the front, they all have that "cheese grader" cover over them; don't know if they're actually all the same or not.

I own HD595/120, HD595 and HD598.

And they all do have different drivers, as far as I can see.

In terms of the sound, the old HD595/120 and the new HD598 sound nearly identical, while the HD595 does not sound like them.
It sounds hollower.

Current offerings of the Fostex T20RP mkII and T40RP mkII use the same driver as the T50RP.

Also, this Fostex headphone that uses the same housing as the Denon D1001 but in a translucent pink color scheme (can't recall the exact model name) also uses the same drivers as the CAL!/D1001.

I remember now, it's the Fostex Kotori 201. I tried it recently during a meet and it sounded almost identical to my CAL! except for a bit less bass.

Stax SR-Sigma Pro and Lambda Signature use a lot of the same parts. Driver is one of them.

I really like the idea of this thread, I have a feeling it might end up as a very informative list.

I thought 70 mm drivers are not common for headphones. Sony just released a new product MDR-MA900 with 70 mm drivers and truly opened cups.

I wonder if the MDR-MA900s have the same drivers as XB1000s?

No doubt they can still sound different with same driver but different housing.

You're right. The XB500 has 40mm drivers, the XB700 has 50mm drivers and the XB1000 has 70mm drivers. The not recommended XB300 has 30mm drivers.
