Found the right headphones, now it's time to find the right way to listen to them.
What's wrong with say Spotify Free? Sure you get some ads, but I find the quality quite acceptable for non-critical listening.- AzN1337c0d3r

Question about sennheiser momentum
Perhaps OP is too used to the Beats one-note bass sound signature? The Momentum certainly doesn't deliver if what you're looking is more one-note bass.- AzN1337c0d3r

Question about Senheisser cables (and cables in general)
Disclaimer: I'm firmly in the camp of cables make no difference. Scientific evidence to date suggests no audible difference from one cable to next. There's the Sound Science forums if you want to learn more about the details. If you are one who finds that a custom cable will open up the highs...- AzN1337c0d3r

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
Quote: +1 Sometimes I like to annoy the hell out of my lab members and take my HD650s. I drive them from the Total Bithead USB DAC/AMP or straight out of the Macbook Pro output. Both sound equally good and I don't even use up 3/4 of the bars on my Macbook Pro which means there is...- AzN1337c0d3r

Sick of buying headphones
If you don't mind used/refurb. Add Sennheiser HD280 Pro to the list. Crazy comfortable and super durable. I've carried them in my backpack for 3 years and I don't baby my backpack. It gets sat on, thrown around, etc. Also fallen asleep at the desk with them on many times. Should be able to...- AzN1337c0d3r

More bass does not mean better bass!
I think what OP was getting at is that common people judge headphone quality by the amount of bass they produce. It's a bit like judging how fast a car will be using only its horsepower rating. Things like a wide usable power band, a good tranmission, and grip contributes to a fast car around a...- AzN1337c0d3r

HD600 vs HD650 vs Maddogs vs DT880's for metal/rock and all-round use.
I own both Sennheiser HD600 and HD650. If you're going to buy one of the Sennheisers for rock/metal. I'd suggest the HD650. The bass really isn't really there enough on the HD600.- AzN1337c0d3r

Sennheiser has only a few good cans and a lot of bad ones?
I don't think Sennheiser has many "bad" products. They're all pretty much average for their price or better. It's just that their "good" products just make the average ones look bad. If there was one company that I'd recommend to buy a headphone from without specifying a model, it would be...- AzN1337c0d3r

Debunking Amp Myths for the AVERAGE headphone listener... What headphones really need amps???

Remove inner mesh that protects the speakers?
This is similar to the "stockings" mod for the HD6xx. With the HD6xx, it makes a world of difference though since their foam is as thick as a pancake. In this case with the HD558 protective mesh, it's so thin that very few people, if any could tell the difference.- AzN1337c0d3r

Computer modeled Sennheiser HD-600
Except for the headband pads, these look more like a HD 650 than a HD 600 in its current form. Can I get a 2880x1800 to use as a wallpaper on my Retina Macbook Pro? ;-)- AzN1337c0d3r

A non-sense probably - From Sennheiser 558 HD to 598 HD
I would suggest investigating other sound signatures like AKG, Beyerdynamic, Shure, Grado, etc.... before spending another $200 on what is probably an insignificant upgrade. In fact, a lot of people prefer to have different cans for different genres of music.- AzN1337c0d3r

Sennheiser HD 518 vs Sennheiser HD 598
They all use the same drivers (518/558/598) so the sound signature will be almost identical. I think the extra price has with the pads and the slight enclosure differences (affecting mostly the highs). The HD518's pad seems to be made of a cloth material which gets rathar itchy after a while...- AzN1337c0d3r

Sennheiser HD598 vs Momentum
Momentum and HD558 fan here! I have the foam modded HD558, so they are supposed to sound 98% like the HD598. The HD598 wins hands down.- AzN1337c0d3r

Output power vs. impedance
The output impedance also indicates how much "control" your amplifier has over your speakers. Z_Load / Z_Source = Damping Factor. where Z_Load is your headphone impedance, and Z_Source is your amplifier output impedance.- AzN1337c0d3r

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
Yes, they are physically compatible. However, the ring around the HD600 grill is made of matte plastic while the HD650 grill is made of shiny plastic, so a careful observer might find it a bit odd. Anyways, HD600 grills are $20 a pop from Sennheiser while HD650 grills are $40.- AzN1337c0d3r

Sennheiser MOMENTUM Review
If I wear them circumaural, ears get uncomfortable after 30mins-1 hour. If I wear them supra-aural, it's great for several hours. However, bass becomes a bit boomy and overemphasized when worn supra-aural for me due to the better seal.- AzN1337c0d3r

Sennheiser HD201 Impressions
There's a pair sitting in my lab left over from a PhD student who has now moved on to do post-doc work at another lab. They're light, they're flimsy. They sound "ok" for $10. They completely lack bass even when drive out of my Total Bithead. Lots of plasticky sounding resonances too, but you...- AzN1337c0d3r

SRH440s vs Senn HD 280
This was only an issue on early HD280 Pros. It was addressed by a manufacturing change. Mine are 3 years old and still looking like brand-new despite being carried in a backpack with no protection and repeatedly being abused (ie. drops to the floor) in a busy lab environment. Edit: The...- AzN1337c0d3r
