Poll: Were the moon landings fake?
There are NO facts the landing were faked. Only conspiracy theories. Everything about it being faked has been debunked years ago, by numerous reputable independent sources. Key points. This was the cold war, the Russians were tracking the lunar module every step of the way. If it was faked...- Drubbing

Matrix M-Stage (Clone) vs. Lehmann Black Cube Linear
I think the LBC is just about the most overpriced amp I've heard; there's been two at half the price that sounded as good or better to me. I think the Meier Concerto is a far superior product, with a smaller price tag. However, I've also come to prefer mid fi phones, so a top shelf amp is...- Drubbing

Why don't they make active headphones?
These used to be available. They're not anymore. That speaks volumes for the interest in them. 1 they'd cost too much 2 they'll sound crap for the money 3 the EQs will be cheap and dirty 4 EQs are already available in media player software, and most are cheap and dirty It makes...- Drubbing

New member seeking advice on headphones
Quote: Why spend $400 when a good phone can do it for half that? IMO there's no anything I know of that as good as the DT250 for $400 anyway. Its underrated and underpriced - at least in the US. Costs $360 here in Aus, so over here, I can say there definitely nothing better for...- Drubbing

CAN FIIO 5 DRIVE DENON AH-D2000
As above. That combo is like buying a new Civic, putting go-faster stripes on it, and actually expecting them to make a difference.- Drubbing

Will be awhile until amping... 250ohm or 600ohm with the DT990? I only own a FiiO E5 right now...
That was the intent of the advice. So long as you are aware you need to feed them better than what you currently have, otherwise is a fair bit of money wasted.- Drubbing

Quote: Your source is still a mobile phone. That's like buying a Ferrari F40 and shoving a Fiat 500 engine in it. Amping is only part of getting the best from phones that need it. The better the phones are, the less plug n play they are, and SQ is only as good as your worst...- Drubbing

You realize you're trying to pair a decent pair of mid range phones with a loudness button? To call the E5 an amp is like saying skull candy are real headphones. And your source is a mobile phone? The 3move is a good portable unit, I had one, but was never designed to run power hungry...- Drubbing

Every phone I've ever bought, because I bought them all after audition so got the right thing first time instead of getting it wrong and buggering about with it.- Drubbing

This or that? SR60i or MS1

This or that? SR60i or MS1
Quote: I don't see why, if they're comfortable leave them be. Bowls are the thing that makes Gradossandros uncomfortable for a lot of people. I hated them so much I took them off my RS2 and use the comfy from my MS1 instead.- Drubbing

Most overrated headphones?
Quote: Same here. Just a dull sounding headphone IMO, even when amped to potential it sounds virtually no different to the AD700, which is cheaper and far easier to drive. Yes, lots of people like 701s, but they don't justify the hype thrown around on here.- Drubbing

Burson 160 or Meier Concerto?
I've heard both, and vastly prefer the Concerto. Probably buying it when bills stop coming in... The Burson has no real pros for me. I find it difficult to hear real differences with amps on auditions (you need time with them) but the Burson was easily the brightest amp I've heard. Good if...- Drubbing

Convert MS1i to balanced inputs?
If they're faulty, balanced input won't fix it - balanced simply provides a dedicated signal of given polarity to each driver. The aim is to reduce (often theoretical) noise from amps, not something an MS1 is going to have much issue with. Aside from that, the cost alone wouldn't be worth...- Drubbing

In your opinion, at which price point do headphones provide the greatest value?
Quote: Quote: Agree, it's a very good and relevant question for anyone new to this. I also agree it's around $400 (Aus prices tend to be higher). Having access to Headphonic, I've heard a lot of products, and to my ears, diminishing returns kicks in around 400. More...- Drubbing

looking for the right headphones
Quote: Everything said in your first post suggest you don't know what you really need. Loud with noise cancelling isn't the domain of studio phones. Bass heavy will mean the bass is over exaggerated nad you won't pick out finer detail in bass lines - or anything else. DT880 will...- Drubbing

Looking for my first set of high quality headphones, preferably around $50
$50 isn't much. The largest SQ jump in audio IMO, is at the FreeBud - $100 range. I think the Portapro is a very good recommendation though, and provides a lot of sound for the money. Yes they look 80s, but that's because they've been making them that long, and they're still selling. That...- Drubbing

HotAudio DACs - How Do They Compare?
Quote: My endpoint is trusting my ears to like or not like what they hear - not discern the ultimate transparency from the stuff I audition/listen to. In fact, I find high end phones aren't to my tastes anyway. At $1000+ you're talking about entering the high end territory...- Drubbing

HotAudio DACs - How Do They Compare?
...nonsense. No one uses numbers to override what their ears tell them. If them do, they are dumb as a stick. Not only that, your generalistion about *many* DACs being sucky is just that, and is the same subjectivity/opinion you've applied to your opposite argument. Sure, really expensive...- Drubbing

Time to get some new full sized closed back headphones, but which ones?
Quote: You see the problem you have here, right? An acknowledged poor sources in music, and equipment, and you want a headphone costing 300GBP to do...what? The cliche is audio is only as good as your worst component. Given that, the DT250 is a forgiving, rather than...- Drubbing

Should I try other headphones?
Quote: Why? This doesn't address your question. Balanced isn't audio voodoo, but it's still in the realm of tweakdom, won't deliver SQ = to its cost if recabling phones, and won't specifically address you preference for muted sibilance. For that you need the right headphone. And...- Drubbing
