Forza AudioWorks Impressions Thread
Mat stopped using Polish Post years ago and went to regular carriers. Polish Post was far cheaper, but it took forever and if stuff got lost you were pretty much screwed. The new carriers aren't much faster, but shipping from Poland seems to be a difficult endeavor.- sludgeogre

Emotiva A-100
That is pretty cool. It makes sense that this amp would be a total dream with high impedance headphones and it almost makes me want to pick up a pair, but I've been so happy with my LCD-2's for years now I haven't had the urge to buy other headphones. I look forward to seeing what Emotiva does...- sludgeogre

Emotiva A-100
I've had this amp since shortly after release, and I also own the original mini-x without the headphone output, and I finally used the A-100 in full power mode with my LCD-2. I had to order a pack of jumpers just to put 2 on the dang board, but I finally did it after all these years. I was using...- sludgeogre

FiiO M11Pro | Dual AK4497 | THX AAA 78 Headpone Amp | 5.15" 18:9 720P | Exynos 7872 | 3G Ram+64G Rom |
I was using a Schiit Bifrost Multibit and Asgard 2 desktop setup before I got the M11 Pro and I think the M11 Pro beats the pants off that old setup. I'm using LCD-2 heaphones with a balanced Forza Audio Works Noir cable and it sounds immaculate. Tons of resolution and slam, which is really what...- sludgeogre

I think you're already right. I use the M11 Pro at my desk most of the time and the extra length is actually quite nice so far for that. Cheers!- sludgeogre

Forza AudioWorks Impressions Thread
Got my Noir cables for my Meze 99 Classics and Audeze LCD-2, both 1.5m long with 4.4mm balanced connections to be used with my Fiio M11 Pro. I've had a Noir Hybrid single ended cable for my LCD-2 for several years, but I haven't been using it much. Getting these two cables was like getting...- sludgeogre

Forza AudioWorks Impressions Thread
I have two Noir cables on the way. Been a few years since I ordered from Forza so I'm very excited to get these. They arrive the day I leave for a work trip, so it's going to suck to wait, but oh well. I bought 1.5m Noir cables with 4.4mm output for my Meze 99 Classics and my LCD-2 for use with...- sludgeogre

Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150
Using the N3 with the USB-C to Coax cable that costs $40, but is quite a nice cable and super strong. Baffled by how incredible this little guy works as a source. Dead silent, gapless playback works flawlessly, and the battery life in this mode is incredible, I can probably use it for a week at...- sludgeogre

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution
Wish I did. I like V-moda's designs. I actually haven't heard any IEM's besides cheap crap. This is my first foray into them. I was getting tired of over-ear headphones when flying and traveling and wanted something that would fit in my pocket and allow me to move my head around unrestricted. I...- sludgeogre

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution
Man, are you right about that one. These things are getting a significant portion of my head time. They are startlingly good for the price. I really just hope the cable holds up because I'm really rough on cables and this thing is about as thin as they get.- sludgeogre

Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150
It really is a stellar little player. There is no theoretically "best" setting for it, it's just personal preferences and a little to do with what headphone you're using. I love using medium gain and the sharp filter setting with my Periodic Audio Be, since they have pretty darn plentiful bass...- sludgeogre

Periodic Audio IEMs Mg, Ti, Be, C
Thanks, heh. I was raised on funk and soul music and I still love the old school stuff (especially the new high-res rips on HD tracks, amazing stuff), but 80% of my listening is death metal. I always want headphones that can do both genres well, which is hard to find for me, but I felt that the...- sludgeogre

Periodic Audio IEMs Mg, Ti, Be, C
I've actually been picking up my Be WAAAYYY more than I've been picking up my Audeze LCD-2 Fazor, which is pretty nuts. Never thought that would happen. I've been listening to a lot of Earth, Wind, and Fire as well as the usual death metal and it just kills so hard with those genres. Funk is an...- sludgeogre

I won't quote the whole post for the sake of brevity, but man do I LOVE this post and I'm super glad that I bought the Be. I'm a chemical engineer at a wood/paper resins facility, so material properties are a thing that I'm very familiar with, but in relation to chemical attack and mechanical...- sludgeogre

Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150
Wow, that's pretty darn strange. It's probably some piece of generic hardware like a USB receiver that might be common to those computers and which doesn't play nicely with USB audio. Hopefully Cayin is able to pinpoint it. The iBasso DX80 that I used to have went through a long and intense road...- sludgeogre

Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150
Sorry for bringing up an old post, just bought this player and am reading through the thread. I had to comment as I had this issue with any DAC I use with a Dell laptop that I have for work. It's one of the business class latitude laptops, but any in that series do the same thing. I think it has...- sludgeogre

Audeze LCD-2 Impressions Thread
I've had my LCD-2 repaired twice and the last one was just a few months ago. To me, the sound has become less thick and more detailed. They have made it more neutral as time has gone on. It's not quite as punchy as it was before to me, but the sound is very balanced and has a lot of detail to...- sludgeogre

I listen to my LCD-2 with rock and death metal all the time. It's my favorite headphone for it. Not sure what it is that people don't like about it. Transient response and flat mids make it amazing.- sludgeogre

Forza AudioWorks Impressions Thread
"In stock" for them just means they have all the parts to make the cable, you still have to wait for them to get to making it. Shipping through Polish post is really cheap, but not the best service, so that's out of Forza's hands. You have to select one of the other carriers at a much higher...- sludgeogre

What a long, strange trip it's been -- (Robert Hunter)
I found it really fascinating that there were so many fans of Opeth and other great metal bands in the favorites list. Lots of classical and orchestral stuff I've never heard of as well, which I expected, but I was really glad to see so many awesome metal bands listed. It seems Schiit really...- sludgeogre

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Speaking of overpriced, overdesigned, pointless engineering... A great example of engineering wrongdoing is the Juicero. It's a $400 machine that presses bags of pulp. You could design one that would perfectly squeeze them for less than $10, but these guys just went totally berserk nuts to make...- sludgeogre

I've had that same experience with them. I'll go a while without using them, think I can sell them, but then I put them back on and my jaw drops on some of my favorite songs and I can't resist headbanging. Magical stuff. I'm never selling them.- sludgeogre
