I remember demoing two different K1000s and I was convinced they sounded like completely different headphones. High serials can be a hit or miss. Low serials tend to always win me over. I do recall one high serial pair I had to sound very "shrill and bright" sounding. Anyway, whenever I listen...- troymadison

At one point I owned 5 pairs at once and now I am down to one pair. My personal preference are the black box or lower serial pairs due to noticeably weightier bottom end and less shrill highs... but the difference isn't super huge. Even though I'd say that the K1000 is the best sounding...- troymadison

VST plugins like 4front headphones should mimic something like the BAP-1000 I would think.- troymadison

Stax SR-507 is my favorite lambda so far after trying the SR-404, SR-407, SR-303 and Nova Basic. I like it when an electrostatic headphone just happens to be really bassy.- troymadison

Yep, it is still my favorite but only if I adjust it correctly. I remember having tried it seven years ago and disliked it but I didn't know you could adjust the temple pads at the time. I always have the drivers all the way out and the temple pads pushed all the way out. People that complain...- troymadison

The new/old toy ... AKG k 501 ... and now ?
I have a K400 and the elastics are worn out. A simple fix was to put a Beyerdynamic headband over the headband.- troymadison

I loved this headphone when I had it. It is indeed a bit "hard" sounding in the higher frequencies but it made for a very nice headstage listening experience. I wish someone would sell me one.- troymadison
