Your favorite IEM tips?
Right now my favorite tips for ER4 are ADDIEM small silicones on Ety's grey foamies' tubings. When the classic black foamies were discontinued I've been trying Shure olives with spacers (don't go deep enough, bass rolloff), Ety triflanges (sound is perfect, but uncomfortable), new grey foamies...- tygger

Help me convince my friend not to buy Beats by Dr. Dre!
Maybe you can show her some pictures? The ones at their website look gorgeous, these were taken after 3 months of careful use (the Dres were a gift for my kid who fell for the images and the endorser). Monster is a music cable company, isn't it? Falling out of the small screws is...- tygger

Apple IEM - most underrated IEMs on the market
ADDIEM are compatible with iPhone as a headset. The volume control works only with Touch 2G and iPhone 3GS. The mic and center control button will work with any iPhone.- tygger

classical music lovers with IEMs
So-called "classical music" (from Hildegarde to Gavin Bryars) and contemporary improvisation are 90% of my listening. Until recently I've been quite happy with amped ER4S for portable, but a week ago switched to ADDIEMs straight from iPhone. The strengths of Etys are timbral accuracy and...- tygger

Are Grado Sr125 supposed to sound better than HD650 without amp?
In this hobby numbers and graphs are normally useless, but some basic headphone arithmetic is still helpful to some extent. Look at the specs of your cans. The Grados have an impedance of 32 Ohm and sensitivity of 98 dB/mW. This means they require 1 mW of power to produce 98 dB of sound level...- tygger

iPhone 3G OS 3.0 sound quality improvement
A short disclaimer first. 1. I'm aware of the fact that a computer's onboard line input is perhaps the worst option for sound recording. 2. I also know, that a player's HP out is for headphones, not for high-resistance load. To measure and analyse audio output an oscilloscope should be...- tygger

iPhone 3G OS 3.0 sound quality improvement
Thanks for confirming the change in SQ. Now I'm absolutely sure of the sound improvement. Tonight I'm going to recable ER4 drivers to stock headset with inline mic adding 50 Ohm buffer per channel and will post the results. Right now ER4S sound way better with iPhone than with Meier Move.- tygger

iPhone 3G OS 3.0 sound quality improvement
I have just updated my iPhone 3G to OS 3.0 and I've got a distinct feeling the sound has changed. I usually listen to iPhone on the go with ER6i's recabled to stock headset and use my Classic/Move combo with PK1, ER4S and SR325i. I first noticed the change with the ER6i. Orchestral pieces got...- tygger

ETYMOTIC new tips - A Silent Surprise
In my experience the grey foamies are inferior to old-style black both in SQ and comfort. First of all the ER4S never sounded harsh or lacking of bass to me. Maybe that's because I don't listen to over-bright brickwalled recordings. The new foamies have problems with treble which is especially...- tygger

Audiophile hell.
In my opinion this article is of great value for music lovers (not pure audiophiles more concerned about euphonic sound). I always use this approach auditioning audio equipment. Peter Qvortrup's experience in designing and building fantastic amps and speakers cannot be overestimated. I...- tygger

Dre's Beats headphones!?
I have already posted about them in one of the older threads, but here is an update. In addition to no sound quality whatsoever (my cordless AKG K940 are better with the same amount of hiss) the funniest thing about the Beats is build quality. Or, to be more precise, the lack of it. The cable...- tygger

Beats by Dr. Dre headphones?
I have finally pulled a plug on those as a gift to the kid. He mostly listens to hiphop, punk core and electronics and spends a lot of time in Moscow subway (a hell of a sonically aggressive place) on his daily commute to college. He also claims he can't stand IEMs. Since there is no local...- tygger

Ulysses and Sirens (on coping with upgraditis)
What I see in the picture is Ulysses listening to 6.1 syren system while his teammates are patiently waiting for their beeswax ear impressions to harden. This is about speakers vs custom IEMs, right? Thanks for the thread!- tygger

Tip options for ER-4
When I first listened to Shure olives on my ER4 I was disappointed by loss of detail and bass which sounded a bit hollow. Later I tried pulling them up the Ety's stem a little to make total length of the tubing match the length of triflanges. This way you get the best of both worlds with Ety's...- tygger

HELP: Ety ER-4P vs Shure ES530 vs Westone UM2, Which to get???
I like ER-4's look too. Yet I believe no other phones can beat Yuin PK1 stealth-wise. Leave them on a sidewalk (which I hope would never happen) and get charged with littering!- tygger

Review: The BIG Yuin Comparison (PK series - OK series)
antonyfirst, thanks for a great review! Did you try the canal version of OK1 too? If yes, do you agree with kostalex that it's sonically inferior to the earbud version? Since your comparison of PK1 vs ER-4 completely conforms with my own experience I'll be definitely getting a pair of OK1...- tygger

Monitor Audio Owners?
Great thread, thanks! I've got a question to MA enthusiasts. I've been using M1 Gold for several years in a very small room and just loved those speakers. Later, when I moved to more spacious listening environment, where the mini monitors started sounding a bit thin I swapped them for Br2...- tygger

Yuin OK1 - review and comparisons.
kostalex, thanks for a great review, it's very clear and informative. If I got it right, the OK1s don't have a "textured" quality to the bass which is the only issue bothering me with the PK1. Otherwise I treasure Yuins as a best item in my modest collection, placing them above SR325i and...- tygger

Nick Cave sends Grado SR-225 over the top
This thread made me blow the dust off my old trusty SR325i/RA-1 combo which I haven't listened to for several months after switching to another pair of cans for home listening. The cymbals part preceding the chorus in Let Love In (pt. 1) was so painfully piercing to my ears that I instinctively...- tygger

Sennheiser Launching New Products at CES!
I've got a slight premonition that the new Senn IE line uses the drivers currently found in Yuin PKs. If it is so, then IE8s are going to be really good, combining excellent PK1 driver, carefully engineered housing and 26db isolation. Can't wait to see the impedance specs of the new Senns...- tygger

HEADSIX vs. MOVE vs. MINI 3 vs HORNET: Portable Amp Showdown
I've got both the Move and the Headsix, so I can only compare these two. While they do sound similar when the Move is in Low Current mode, the High Current setting on the Move is better for my ears with low-impedance cans (SR125s/325i's). Crossfeed on the Move is a very addictive feature. I...- tygger
