Drive headphones from preamp outs?
Here's a real world example. The headphone jack on my SAE Mark XXX preamp gets the exact same signal that goes to the main outs, and my low impedance cans have no bass and exaggerated treble. Turning the bass all the way up and the treble all the way down makes them almost listenable, so the...- audiomagnate

Review by 'audiomagnate' on item 'Superlux HD-681 EVO Black Professional Monitor Headphones'
I can't get over how much I love these cans. Except for the slightly bloated bottom, which doesn't reveal itself on most cuts, these sound as good as anything I've heard except crazy expensive stuff like HD800s and the original Orpheus. I like them better than the HD 580/600/650, K/Q701, and...- audiomagnate

[Review] Superlux HD681 EVO
2nd Day with my modded EVO's. I LOVE these cans! Maybe the bass is a tad bloated, but who cares? I wore them when I walked/ran the dog today. Now they're my favorite portables. They stayed on my head while running (NOT "jogging") with no problem and play plenty loud with my Galaxy Note 3/Tidal...- audiomagnate

[Review] Superlux HD681 EVO
Mine arrived today. I did the velour switch and filter removal and wow, if there's a better headphone out ther for $42 shipped I want to know about them. I love these things! Clamping pressure is fine for me. I've had them on for hours and couldn't be happier. I'm using 24 bit files and...- audiomagnate

I REALLY don't like these headphones. They have nice detail in the mids and highs, but the bass is just bad and resonates in the cups at 70 to 90. They hurt my ears, physically and acoustically. Live and learn. You get what you pay for. These cans are nasty. Very forward in the upper mids like...- audiomagnate

Reply to review by 'audiomagnate' on item 'Infinity Renaissance 90's'
Excellent review. I've been on an Infinity kick lately, and I agree. I think the dipole Infinity monsters sound much more colored than the 90s, my favorite of the classic Infinity line. A fantastic last hurrah from the real Infinity.- audiomagnate

The JVC HA-S500 thread.
I got mine today. They shipped on the 8th, so four days transit time from Tokyo, not bad. Anyway, they seem to have a pretty pronounced resonance around 100 Hz. I haven't read this whole thread, but does anyone else hear this? Otherwise they're very nice, but I hope there's a way to tame the hump.- audiomagnate

I was a Jecklin Float dealer back in the day, and was good friends with the importer, Bob Welch, who also imported Transcriptors. I loved them but they did so many things wrong they shouldn't be held up as the perfect headphones. The best way to listen to a pair of Floats is prostrate on your...- audiomagnate

I ordered mine three days ago (the sixth) and it looks like they're scheduled for delivery via UPS tomorrow, the tenth. Is this possible? EDIT: The Delivery turned out to be something else. Mine are stuck in LA customs. Oh well.- audiomagnate

I've pretty much stayed away from this site for two years or so - I'm into big a** speakers like Infinity RS 2.5s and B&W 801s now - and twenty minutes later I have a pair of headphones coming from Japan and I'm out $79. Thanks guys!- audiomagnate

Bose QuietComfort 15 on rechargeable batteries?
I heard the QC15s at Best Buy the other day. They sound good and the noise cancellation is amazing, much better than the more expensive yet outdated QC3s. Best Buy was very busy and the noise level was high. As I slipped them on I was transported out of the store to a very quiet, mellow place...- audiomagnate

iPod Touch or Zune HD?
I voted for the HD with my wallet too, a 32 gigger with the AV dock. It is insane what this thing can do and how beautiful the screen it. WIFI + Marketplace + Zunepass = Nirvana. I REALLY like the marketplace experience with the device. The software is OK (much slower than the Zune itself while...- audiomagnate

HD600: Stock cable or HD650's Cable?
The 600 cable terminates with an 1/8 inch plug, the 650 with a 1/4inch plug. Adapters are a pain (especially when you can't find one), so I would get the one that matches up with the equipment with which you're going to use them with most often. The 650 cable looks way cooler if that makes a...- audiomagnate

Zune for podcasts?
Zune is almost perfect for podcasts. I subscribe to about five podcasts, some daily, some weekly, some unpredictable (Onion News). I simply wireless sync every morning if I don't need a charge while I'm getting ready to walk the dog and I'm good to go in a few minutes. You can tweak just about...- audiomagnate
