FiiO E10 DAC/amp - OS volume eliminating knob's usability?
Just got a new computer and a new DAC - a 2021 MacBook Pro and the FiiO E10 USB DAC. Using the latest version of MacOS. Headphones are Sennheiser HD 8XX. On my old computer and old Schiit Fulla USB DAC/amp, I noticed that when plugging in the DAC and selecting it in the "Output" tab of the...- porridgecup

Room acoustics and open headphones
That is very possible. Upon further re-listening, it does seem like the increased impact of instruments like kick drums is coming more from the upper harmonics than the actual low end itself. It's a temporary situation; definitely not ideal.- porridgecup

Room acoustics and open headphones
I posted this on another forum, but was regarded as if this were impossible and that I'm just experiencing placebo. I was sitting in a small room with my HE-400i headphones; the door is almost always closed. I normally sit right in front of the door, facing it. Recently, I left the door...- porridgecup

Splitter with XLR input and XLR + single ended output?
I'm having trouble finding a splitter that meets these requirements: 1 4-pin XLR balanced cable input 1 4-pin XLR balanced cable output 1 single ended 1/4" cable output I'm trying to have my amp output to my HD 800 (with balanced cable) and my Subpac S2, and I believe a splitter...- porridgecup

Issue with Bryston BHA-1 outputs
My Bryston BHA-1 amp has a balanced output and a single ended output. I have my HD 800 connected to the stereo balanced output. When I connect another device (Subpac S2) to the single ended output simultaneously, I notice that the output coming out of my HD 800 becomes a bit quieter. It also...- porridgecup

Bryston BHA-1 - issue using both outputs at once?
My Bryston BHA-1 amp has a balanced output and a single ended output. I have my HD 800 connected to the stereo balanced output. When I connect another device (Subpac S2) to the single ended output simultaneously, I notice that the output coming out of my HD 800 becomes a bit quieter...- porridgecup

HiFiMan HE 400i Cable Replacement
Thanks. It is indeed the dual mono connectors. Are there any other headphones or other keywords to search for finding cables that use the same kind of connectors?- porridgecup

HiFiMan HE 400i Cable Replacement
My HE 400i just arrived a few hours ago, and I noticed that the right channel sounded considerably weaker than the left. I think it's quieter and has some missing bass extension. At first I thought it was just a defective driver, but repeatedly swapping the detachable cable outputs revealed...- porridgecup

Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!
I'll consider it, but from the reviews I've read of the HE 1000 I'm not sure if I'd prefer it over the HD 800... especially enough to prefer it to part with them as well as almost $2k. I do love planar magnetic headphones, though.- porridgecup

The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
I own the LCD 2 (pre-Fazor) and HD 800. Both running through a Bryston BHA-1 and Schiit Gungnir. HD 800's bass feels just as good as the LCD 2's in terms of detail and extension. Probably a little bit more detail. However, due to the brighter nature of the headphones, you'll probably have...- porridgecup

Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!
Doubt anyone would be willing to do such a trade, but is there any chance I could trade in my HD 800 for an HD 800 S somewhere? Mine get little use at the moment due to having to aggressively EQ them (sometimes wasting hours fiddling with the EQ ever so slightly...) to make them less bright and...- porridgecup

Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)
Due to the flatter response, could the HD800 S be considered good studio reference headphones? Or would a better choice be something specifically intended to be "reference"?- porridgecup

The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
The subjective feeling of impact for me, I think, may also partly be a result of the tight seal the LCD-2 creates around my head when I fit it properly. Impact may not be the right word here; it's just a more "close" bass, I guess? I'm not well-versed in audio science, I just know...- porridgecup

The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
I own the Audeze LCD-2.2 (pre-Fazor) and HD 800. I love them both, but for different kinds of songs. I'm a big bass fan, so the HD 800 wasn't satisfactory for certain kinds of electronic music. But recently I've been trying to get the best of both worlds. I've been playing around with...- porridgecup

Schiit Gungnir DAC
Just as a counter-point, I didn't notice the bass being more powerful, but I did definitely notice more instrument separation and a more "musical" sound. I feel like the bass had more impact due to some of the separation, though I didn't perceive a change in bass quality.- porridgecup

Audeze LCD-4
Not going to deny your other points, but I found the LCD-2 scales quite well, too. It sounded good out of Magni/Modi, but far, far better out of my current BHA-1 and Gungnir MB. Definitely not as transparent as the HD-800 using the same gear, but even with my pre-Fazor 2.2, I actually...- porridgecup

UpTone Audio USB REGEN
I found the REGEN noticeably increased the transparency and subjective soundstage with the Gungnir multibit (which is fairly similar to the Yggy). I can also corroborate your comment about "softening" and being able to listen at higher volumes with less fatigue.- porridgecup

Schiit Gungnir DAC
Sent my Gungnir in for the multibit upgrade and received it the other day. Definitely an awesome improvement. It's really hard to describe exactly how it sounds different, but things do sound more musical and more enjoyable. My Uptone REGEN also came in yesterday. The GMB sounds...- porridgecup

I only have one Jitterbug, but this is what I'm noticing, too. I was not performing blind testing, but at this point I'm 90% sure the Jitterbug is producing changes that I dislike. UpTone Audio USB REGEN
First impressions with REGEN, using a Gungnir multibit DAC: The difference is small, but there's definitely a noticeable improvement. I hear more transparency and more instrument separation. Somewhat paradoxically, I found things sounding better at lower volumes, yet I have to turn the...- porridgecup

Amp recommendations for Audeze LCD-2
With the Bryston BHA-1 and LCD 2.2 pre-Fazor, subjectively they sound a lot better when they're quite loud. Though they're still good even when pretty quiet.- porridgecup
