I Got My New Speakers and an Amp -- Unsatisfied -- Thoughts?
Do you have past experience with setting up speakers? Because the room, and how your speakers are set up in the room (on a desk? on stands? near a wall? etc) are just as important as knowing what speakers you are using, and as long as you have at least adequate amplification will yield more... -
Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
It really depends on the headphone and personal preference whether it is good or bad. You can look up the impedance curve of the Elear, and you'll see quite a (EDIT: sub/lower mid bass) bump. So if someone really wants to up the bass you could pair it with something that has a high output...- thinkingoffish

Try HM5 hybrid or pleather pads. You might need some front damping depending on your treble tolerances, but they are an easy way to totally fix the upper mids.- thinkingoffish

Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
It's not just you. Anyone saying differently can just look at measurements. The Elears have a BIG dip in the upper mids (~3 to ~5 khz). People can hear whatever it is they hear of course, but you can't deny the measurements. Try pad swapping. HM5 hybrid or pleather pads both work and fix...- thinkingoffish

Focal Elear - Impressions Thread
I'm surprised pad rolling hasn't been mentioned yet in this thread. To the people here who find the dip (more like a pit really) in the upper mids too much, try HM5 hybrid/pleather, alpha pads, or zmf pleather pads. Others may work too, but those ones have been tried. You may or may not need...- thinkingoffish

Torpedo III Build Thread
Finished my Torpedo III last week. This was my first soldering project, and I'm glad I decided to go this route. The amp is wonderful. I'm not going to bother going into how it sounds as I hate trying to describe to other people what I hear, but I will say this has an amazingly black...- thinkingoffish

Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch
I have made a couple of purchases from stereodesk (shipping to Canada and still gave me free shipping!), and Fred was great to deal with, but if you're in Europe it's probably better to just order straight from head-direct.- thinkingoffish

Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch
You could turn that around easily by saying weight is less important if you have a good headband design though.- thinkingoffish

Cheap balanced amp?
Then the balanced output of the protector is better than its single ended output, which isn't really a surprise given that it is designed as a balanced amp. Your previous statements imply balanced > single ended period though. Yes, the super 7 only accepts SE inputs. The DNA tube...- thinkingoffish

Cheap balanced amp?
You're making blanket statements though that balanced > single ended. Even in your comparison of lightning to shadow is that of a newer more expensive model vs an older less expensive one. It's a little ridiculous of me to go with the opposite and say that single ended > balanced because i...- thinkingoffish

Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch
While true, you also have to take into account the actual impedance curve of the headphone. Current planar dynamics have seriously flat impedance curves, so flat that they really do not care what the output impedance of the amplifier is. Really, go to innerfidelity and look up Tyll's...- thinkingoffish

Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch
I don't see why this would be an issue. None of the current HE line (or Audeze line up or any planar dynamic currently in production for that matter) have crazy impedance curves that you need to watch out for. Check out Tyll's measurements. Power output may come into question (considering...- thinkingoffish

Mission: Replace the HiFiMAN ear pads with other brand ear pads
They actually fit on just fine, with no modifications. Just put them on the same way as stock pads. Yes, the pads WILL stick out past the cup enclosure, but despite looking too small for the Audeze pads, the plastic rings from the (newer) HE series do end up holding the pads down enough so...- thinkingoffish

Maestral´s Had-AudioLab from Croatia Europe
Just thought I would chime in on this, since I purchased a maestral II as well. I do a lot of my listening with ortho dynamic headphones, and was going to go for the maestral III specificaly because of the lower output impedance. After telling Drazen what I planned to use my he-500 quite a...- thinkingoffish
