Azur 540D DVD player or Azur 640C CD player?
I've been using my 540D as a DVD player for about 6 months now. It definitely holds its own against other budget CDPs in terms of redbook playback. However, the 540D does sound a little cold for my tastes. I actually find the old D500 CDP model more musical. Also, the transport is slow, clunky...- Pat

Help me with a new setup . . .
Why not give the AKG K-1000s a try? I've never heard them myself but everyone who has owned a pair seems to love them. If I were to start a new system from scratch, they'd be on the top of my list for sure. K1000: $529 SE-9: $399 6moons review...- Pat

Will the Grado vs. Senn debate ever end?

How good are the RS-1's?
There's a reason Grado has so few supporters on this board. We're all too busy enjoying our music (I suppose I got suckered into this thread). I was an "audiophile" for a few years. Critiquing everything I could about my components. Tweaking this part, replacing that part - never quite being...- Pat

What is your favorite Head-Fi thread of all time?
Anyone remember Neruda, his Grados and his butterknife? Or was that headwise...?- Pat

Need source for RS-1's and Emmeline HR2
I second the Cambridge Audio suggestion. I haven't heard the new line but I the D500 was a great value. Warm and musical are probably the most often quoted descriptions of Cambridge Audio players. For a bit more, The Musical Hall CD-25.- Pat

The Strokes- Room on fire
I totally agree with Chefguru. The first album was fun but all the tracks sounded alike. I got bored of it real fast. Room On Fire mixes up the pace throughout. It's nice. I wasn't expecting too much when I bought the album, so this has been a nice suprise so far. Definitely better than the... -
X-Can v2 distortion problem
I owned the X-Can v2 once. Common problems seem to be the headphone jack and volume pot. Cleaning might be in order. I didn't get a chance to read your post earlier - maybe these items have already been discussed. For what it's worth, I never had any problem with this great amp.- Pat

Shure E2C's or ER-4S or ER-4P or ER-6 ?
I've owned both the ER4P and ER6. Simply put, both are worth every penny if you're an audio junkie. The ER4 is easier to insert for a good seal. It sounds better too. The only problem I have with the ER4 is the cord noise (occlusion?). You can't be moving about, eating or breathing too heavily...- Pat

what was the flavor of the month when you joined head-fi?
Interesting thread.... I haven't posted in what seems like forever. When I first joined as headwize, it was the grado sr60 and sr80 fad. Then it was the MG Head/Senn HD600 phase. After that, the Ety craze. All those seem to be headfi staples now.- Pat

Ipod or Nomad Jukebox 3?
Simple answer: iPod is a better player -better looks -better user interface NJB3 is a better value -more features -less expensive I have the iPod. The sound is comparable in my opinion. I don't care for extraneous "features". In fact, I chose the iPod because it DIDN'T have all that...- Pat

iPod Decoder Problems
I'd like to hear these pops and clicks. So far, my iPod has been flawless. Tell me which CDs these problematic samples originated from and I'll rip and encode them myself (there are too many variables bypassed if I just download premade samples). If I hear artifacts, maybe then I'll join your...- Pat

iPod Decoder Problems
Just got a 10 gig iPod (PC). No pops, no clicks, no artifacts. I'm using lame 3.90.2 (Dibrom's compile) with --alt-preset standard.- Pat

IPOD or the Zen: Serious repsonses only
Just an update to let you all know I went with the iPod over the Zen. The thing absolutely gorgeous... by far the most elegant piece of electronic equipment I've ever owned. Pictures don't do the iPod enough justice. You gotta hold it to really understand its aesthetics. It sounds terrific so...- Pat
