I dislike straight up djent but I think there are useful elements that can be taken from it. Ex: https://sithuayemusic.bandcamp.com/track/pulse-part-i-feat-plini The problem with the band you posted is that there's only one melodic line. No layers, just the single synchronized riff with...- macrocheesium

This is an interesting discussion to follow. In my experience, every metal listener that I know is one is also one of the calmest people I know. Quote: How do you distinguish the "fake" angry metal from the real stuff?- macrocheesium

You might be mixing up experiencing emotions and perceiving emotions. I mean, I wouldn't want to ever actually feel extremely angry. Listening to a song with a clear mind allows you to better perceive the emotions it's portraying, like any nuance in the music. It sound like you and KritiKal...- macrocheesium

I was really into post metal for about a year before getting burned out. I still visit favorites occasionally, but a lot of these albums seem to lack substance with repeated listens.- macrocheesium

I remember hearing a track from that album when it came out and not liking it, but this is way better. I'll have to give the whole thing a try, thanks.- macrocheesium

Power metal favorites: Seventh Wonder Ancient Bards - A New Dawn Ending I enjoyed Epica's latest album too (which was a first) but I'm sure you've heard of them.- macrocheesium

Was it their intention to make an album that takes longer to pronounce than to listen to? I haven't seen a naming convention like that since 55gore.- macrocheesium

Lets Talk Metal
My usual listening habit is to shuffle my entire library until a I hear a song that sounds good at that moment, and then I go on to listen to that entire album. Sometimes I don't know what I want to hear until I hear it. "Shuffling" isn't inherently bad, IMO. I've always looked at music in...- macrocheesium

Lets Talk Metal
Aside from concept albums and albums with songs that are closely tied together, I can't honestly say that there's a point to the album format. Of course I like it because it's what I'm used to and all that, but without the limitations of physical media it makes more sense to release material...- macrocheesium

Yeah, I felt the same way about their last 2. This sounds really promising! Gonna miss Mikko, though.- macrocheesium

Lets Talk Metal
Heard it today. My only complaint is that a lot of the time when vocals are present, the music becomes simpler and more "typical metal" to accommodate. But man, when the vocals drop out and the extra instrumentation kicks back in, it's just beautiful. That perfect surreal mix of light and...- macrocheesium

On the topic of hardcore-ish metal, I recently heard Choidos' latest album and liked it. I'm not normally a fan of the stuff but it was catchy enough to make up for that. Amaranthe's album this year was disappointing. A couple good songs but for the most part The Nexus was a lot better.- macrocheesium
