Would flat pads improve my SR-80's?
I got the modded Sennheiser pads which I've heard are more similar to the flat pads than the bowls, and it definitely changed the sound. I personally liked it better...it narrowed the soundstage down a bit but really brought out a lot more detail. Your mileage may vary, but I think the SR-80's...- LargeSock

Those of you with Creative drivers/sound card... what do you have settings at?

Those of you with Creative drivers/sound card... what do you have settings at?
The "speaker" setting gives you the most neutral, accurate sound you can get out of the soundcard. The "headphone" setting adds some extra processing...whether this is a good or bad thing is up to you. I always leave it set to "speakers" and leave any other DSP-type activities I'd want to...- LargeSock

Mahler's Symphony No. 5 Telarc SACD - defective?
I recently bought Mahler's Symphony No. 5 with Benjamin Zander and the Philharmonia Orchestra on SACD from Telarc, and it's a fantastic recording for the most part. However, when playing it on my Pioneer DV-563A, the sound cuts off very abruptly at the end, as if there's a defect in the disc and... -
What do you use to organize mp3's?
The special installation of Foobar includes a masstagger plugin which fits my needs quite well.- LargeSock

Audioscrobbler group for fellow Head-Fiers
Ah, but you underestimate the tremendous payoff and satisfaction from being a part of Audioscrobbler. It's better than upgrading from stock earbuds to an Orpheus.- LargeSock

Choosing what to listen to??
About half the time, I just set Foobar on random over my entire library of music. The other half I'll switch between listening to particular albums or just choosing a genre and doing random within it. I like well-organized and well-tagged music. -
Audioscrobbler group for fellow Head-Fiers
You could always, you know, keep a player open on your computer, mute the volume, and use dummy files to mirror what you're actually listening to.- LargeSock

Audioscrobbler group for fellow Head-Fiers
Aha! With 2051, I have the most songs logged so far; however, my top song has only been played six times. I'm being robbed from representation on the group listings. You people need to diversify.- LargeSock

Audioscrobbler group for fellow Head-Fiers
Hmmm...your musical tastes don't run across too many genres, do they? Well, I'm joined up. I actually stumbled across it from Audioscrobbler's site first and then came here. Wacky.- LargeSock

Upsampling?
Yeah, the 2D display of some of those cards was extremely fuzzy; nice and smoothed. Video card anti-aliasing is not analogous to oversampling in audio though, because the video card has a lot of extra information it can use to apply the anti-aliasing. The video card issue is more like an...- LargeSock

ety-4p or ety4s
My understanding is that the adapter cable does make the 4p sound exactly like the 4s. But it does cost extra money, hence the market for the 4s. I personally never listen to a source without an amp, so the 4s fits my needs best; no extra cable hanging around, and no extra money paid for the...- LargeSock

An example of what's wrong w/ high-end audio today:
My advisor in college wrote her thesis on wavelets. From what little I understand of them, they seem like a very good system of approximating wave forms; better than Fourier transforms in certain applications in pure mathematics. However, all that is irrelevant because the above example is...- LargeSock

Led Zeppelin & Strange Sound
That is really annoying. It really stands out in a bad way. I guess I'll have to remember *not* to critically listen to this song again. -
Sennheiser HD 590 Graph
Just to drive this further off-topic: What's the cause for the radical dip in frequency response seen somewhere around 8 kHz? This seems to be prevalent in almost every headphone measurement I've seen that isn't smoothed.- LargeSock
