Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Speaking of software demos by vendors took me back a decade or so when I was part of the team evaluating potential new knowledge and information management systems. (Yes I know, not exciting but essential for a $100B company). In order to do this we had to expand our team and had a new hire for...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

No...not yet. Best intentions but you know....Road to perdition etc. Assembled all the parts 2 or 3 weeks ago but life intervened and I'm currently on the road [in Adelaide] as my wife's roadie. And here I am thinking I had taken early retirement. :) Back home next week and will roll up my...

DOH...Quite right. I didn't recognize the URL straight off (It was changed some time ago) and it didn't give Rod by name. :) Yep, JLH. Dyslexia rules! KO!

Also http://www.firstwatt.com/articles.html which lists many of Nelsons designs, including the infamous 'Beast with a thousand JFETS'! The bonus is that his writing always makes me smile....just like Jason's does.

One of my fav DIY sites [aside from those already mentioned] is Rod Elliot's ESP. http://sound.whsites.net/index2.html He has quite a number of projects covering all aspects of audio and has a very pragmatic approach. http://sound.whsites.net/projects-0.htm His P3 and P3A amp has been built and...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Yep...outstanding. It took a few years until Youtube vids started coming out that I found out what he was doing on 'Discipline'. Couldn't work it out but knew I liked it. I now know it was the 'Chapman Stick' which combines bass and electric guitar and more...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I was just about to plug for Frank myself. :-) Not only a great player but extremely inventive, particularly around time signatures. Not many rock (or jazz ....aside from Brubeck) players stray from 4/4. For example Keep It Greasy the first verse and guitar solo are counted in 19/16 and...

Subjectively, because as a Mech Eng I find it quite beautiful...it's design gives me pleasure. :) Reason enough?

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I've still got my two sliderules in a draw right next to me....together with my first calculator, the venerable HP-45. But what I always lusted after was a Curta that was advertised in the back of Scientific American. Never knew anyone who had one. There is a very interesting story around...

As we have been discussing SMD soldering I have a question re the regulators. I have not soldered any SDM with rear pads before. Is there any special technique? Or do I just ensure that I have flux on the PCB pad and let the solder flow as usual?

That's a nice coincidence...a bunch of Vonnegut fans. I'm in the middle of reading a book of Kurt's letters. Great man. A little mixed up, but a great human. To this day Slaughterhouse Five is one of my very favorite books. And Kilgore Trout and Billy Pilgrim are my favorite literary...

No worries Dieselmat! Hi Paladin. For $30 they look hard to beat. And 10kV! Not the sort of voltages you'd want in a headphone amp. :-) I also love the 'how to repair telephones' photo in the ad. The one shown in my photo is my current favorite. EEV Blog Brymen BM235...
