I love David Byrne for what I consider one of the greatest albums of all time -
"Lead Us Not Into Temptation (Music From The Film Young Adam)". It's also spectacularly recorded and mastered - I've been using it as a reference CD for as long as I've been into head-fi.

It has been a while since I have made my own PCB's but everything else is certainly something I can do. I have not shopped for the headphones but they are bound to be pricey. I best take care of other projects first.
The only U.S. made HP option I'm aware of are Mr. Speaker's Voce at $3K. So going electro-static is not for the faint of wallet.

Which is why you shouldn’t climb inside old transformers.
Small transformers generally have hard potting, not oil like askarel or pyranol which have PCBs. Old oil capacitors may have PCBs. If you leave them as is and don't try to drain the oil. they are fine to use. It is only when fools take a bath or ingest these oils that there is a problem. BTW, I will gladly accept any "old " plate and filament transformers that you may have.

But what do PCBs have to do with electrostatic headphones? Am I missing something obvious?

Nothing--I did not raise the issue.

Yeah sorry not directed at you, I found some diy electrostatic hp. But I think you have to find a company to make the pcbs for you

I was going to add this site until I realised Jason had already given it.

Shouldn't that be JLH?
I know the Chinese have it as JHL
I had many articles of his in some old Wireless Worlds I picked up at a sale (and some of his books of course)

DOH...Quite right. I didn't recognize the URL straight off (It was changed some time ago) and it didn't give Rod by name.

:) Yep, JLH.
Dyslexia rules! KO!
