flac to mp3 converter in ubuntu

There are apps like gnormalize and xfca (both not available in the repositories unfortunately, you'd have to download and install them manually), a Nautilus script/extension called nautilus-script-audio-convert, or you could just use flac/lame on the command line or in a bash script.

Ripping my Old CDs & Have ?'s

Quote: apparently the best thing to do is the RIP to FLAC (or other loseless format) and then convert them to whatever format you need mp3/wma/aac/ect... You can go to MP3 directly if that's all you want. The point of creating and keeping lossless FLAC files is never having to rip...

    Absolute best LOSSY codec?

Quote: I heard Nero AAC tops the charts, but I have trouble finding it. Nero AAC Codec Quote: I found the NERO AAC encoder, but they just have the encoder, decoder and tagging exe files. Which don't do anything when I click on them. They're command line apps just like...

    AKG K601 & K612 Pro Owners... UNITE!!

Quote: Your next step would probably be to save for a dedicated DAC / CD player (the Fortissimo is a soundcard right?) Yes, some Envy24 thing. Probably nothing special but it has to be better than the onboard stuff. Since I rip everything onto the computer and would like to keep it...

    AKG K601 & K612 Pro Owners... UNITE!!

Just got mine (#19xxx). Positive first impression, I think I'm going to really like these. Currently running them from the headphone out on a mid-70s Yamaha CR-600 receiver hooked up to my Hercules Fortissimo IV. 2.5-3/10 seems plenty loud... how badly do I really need/want a separate...

Firmware 1.02.01 out for Creative V200

Quote: new firmwear for my N200 Volume adjustment has been reduced to 25 steps (used to be 40, right?), and the FM region selection seems to be gone. I also saw the "Please wait" message (mentioned above regarding the V200 firmware) on startup... Unfortunately I don't have any...

    Help Me Decide: Flash Player

I think I've read some of your earlier posts on the MT6, could you elaborate on the headphone jack issue? I want a player that takes AA/AAAs... Iaudios are expensive around here (~200€ for the G3, even more for the 5) for some stupid reason. What else is out there? iRiver's 799/899 seem to...

    Help Me Decide: Flash Player

jack963 and/or azncookiecutter, I'm interested in the MT6(Z) too but stumbled across the following sentence in the fine print of the manual: Quote: When playing a VBR file, you cannot move to and play the previous track even if you push the joystick to the |<< position within 5 seconds...

Proof for the Creative N200 / V200 "click" problem! Pics & Waves.

Summarizing: the backlight noise issue can only be fixed with new hardware (available who-knows-when), the clicks/squeaks durign playback might be 'addressed' by a firmware upgrade scheduled for the end of february, the clicks/pops between tracks could not be reproduced? Wow, now I don't feel...

There is no definitive answer on this yet, and I'd suggest keeping your money until that changes (as promised on Creative's support forum).
