got my E6 in today... compared to my laptop output, very little difference.. a little less bass and more crispier treble, that's all.

I'd say the 840s are too trebly to be completely neutral. They got very tiring to listen to , both musically and physically. Classical music also sounds really weird , the violins just screech too much.

mdr-1r are pretty similar too, but i didn't get a chance to a/b, just auditioned the 1r   shure-840s I own, and they sound NOTHING like the momentums. at all.

are you referring to amp/DAC combo or just an amp (ie E6?)

oi hd 598s came in today. two completely different sound signatures, yet so awesome in their own regards. I don't think I'll be needing any more upgrades for a while :)

i just upgraded from soundstage-modded 555s to 598s, has anyone else done the same? I feel like the soundstage is similar, but but it is the added treble response in the 598s makes it sound wider/airier   edit: not to downplay the significance of the upgrade: everything sounds clearer...

Shure 840 sound is very different from momentum. Much more treble oriented, while momentums have deeper bass extension.

I had a pair from another retailer and returned it, then received new ones from razordog today.. canada post is lazy so I couldn't do a direct comparison.. I swear the sound is a little different! maybe i'm just crazy though.
