I didn't mean the color, but the material the red fabric is made of, but if the measurements were removed, then it's an anomaly.

they just dyed it black for the classic momentum and dyed it red for the urban momentum. Of course the guys at Sennheiser know that they should not change the material. Afterall including a new material into the production line is probably gonna cause more work hassle and more cost.

It's a different color, not necessarily a different material.

Am I the only one who understood that Ishcabible meant that the fabric MIGHT also be a slightly different fabric "although highly unlikely"?

Nope, but i disregarded the possiblility of it being a different material immediately.

About materials and stuff, have any of you have had your brown earpads turn black?
Yup. Leather is natural skin so it needs oils to stay nice and soft. This is the reason why leather furniture needs to be "kept" every 10-20 years or else it starts cracking. When leather soaks in the oils from your skin it becomes a very dark brown. The outer edges of the leather pads are still medium brown though(not dark).

Do I need to take special care on the earpads? I never use leather in any form, so I don't know if I have to follow some steps in order to keep it nice and preventing it from cracking. I use my Momentums every day for 3-5 hours.

Does Sennheiser sell replacement pads?

I just found out on google some "Mink Oil" stuff to keep leather in mint conditions. Will it be necesary to "oil" the earpads once in a while?

For the cable...........

it is possible to use the remote control cable and plug it into a normal audio device? I've never had a cable that has four contacts because I only use my headphones with regular headphone jacks. I just picked up an iPod touch but I'm going to switch back and forth between difference devices and don't want to keep swapping cables

It works fine on my devices (PC, Sony Walkman, Xperia S). Well, by fine I mean I get audio signal without problems, controls and mic don't work.

I use the normal cable tough, I feel the it sounds quite different (less noise?)  when compared to the cable with remote.

I understood his post quite well.  I just happen to disagree that it is a different material, or the fact that there is even a difference between the sound of both versions...

To be fair, I have not listened to the Black model yet.

Real leather requires maintenance and it really doesn't matter what the application is. Considering this application of it touches your ears and head the whole time while active, I think it may be somewhat uncomfortable to standard leather conditioner on it. I wonder what is recommended for these particular cups.

The oil from your face should be a sufficient conditioner for the leather.

probably just having it change to a darker colour as a side effect.
(to be honest i think this is the same reason why pleather earpads get flaky over extended periods of non use)

I have the brown Momentums, and there definetely is a notch at right around 4.5khz, so now I'm curious if this is an anomaly?

go to http://www.audionotch.com/app/tune/ and play around with the Hz, and there's definetely a huge drop around 4.5kHz.

as well, it's quite evident from the headroom graph:

Yes, there is. The black Momentums have an anomaly in the 4.5 kHz range that will cause certain vocals and instruments to not be heard. Besides that, it is exceptional. The brown Momentums do not have this issue.

(I already posted this several hours ago but for some reason it's not listed anymore in this thread. Weird).

http://www.cheatography.com/fredv/cheat-sheets/eq-tips/ , according to this, the 4.5hz is tiring to the ear. mean while, http://heartsoffireproductions.com/studio/links/sound_guide.htm indicates that the 'snap' of the snare is at 4.5hz
http://www.behindthemixer.com/content/how-eq-speech-maximum-intelligibility says it's for vowel sounds.

it seems like it might be intentional, contributing to the 'easy' sound that these headphones produce!

Interesting. I don't get tho why they would cut everything drastically right after 2000hz...
