If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

Get the Clip+ and put Rockbox on it. After that, set crossfeed to Meier and adjust EQ settings if you wish. I use my ER4S with a Clip+ (Rockboxed, Meier crossfeed on, slight bass boost), and it sounds great. Before, I had used this same setup with a mini3 amp. The mini3 helped a bit, but after...

    Clip Zip Rockbox Meier Crossfeed

Can't believe I missed that one from Martin. Thanks for the link. My Clip Zip is perfect now.

    Clip Zip Rockbox Meier Crossfeed

I just bought a Clip Zip and haven't been able to find any Meier crossfeed Rockbox builds for it. Found one for my Clip+ and love it, but I really miss the Meier crossfeed on the Zip. Has anyone made a build of this yet?   On a related note, is there any particular reason why the Meier patch...

I run my ER4S straight out of my Clip+, and they sound perfectly fine unamped. Almost can't tell the difference between that and with my mini3. Still plenty fast unamped, even with heavy metal.

Are the Etymotic ER-4Ps a significant step up from the HF5s?

"Better overall sound performance" is really subjective. What do you value in an IEM's sound sig? If you're happy with your HF5's as it is, maybe you should experiment with EQ'ing them (and getting that impedance adapter).   I haven't heard any Westones, so I can't comment on them.    ...

Are the Etymotic ER-4Ps a significant step up from the HF5s?

It makes the HF5's require power, but it makes them sound alot better too. At least in my experience. They sound great without it too, but it's a $10 addition that's well worth the investment.     Quote:

Are the Etymotic ER-4Ps a significant step up from the HF5s?

I've got the HF5's and the ER4S's. The ER4S's have just slightly less bass quantity and slightly more detail. Just get a 100 ohm impedance adapter (I tried it with the 75 ohm, and the 100 ohm was much more of an improvement) for your HF5's, and you'll be just fine. The ER4S (I haven't heard the...

Mini3 and u-DAC2, but those are my only amps (and amp/DAC combo). But the best I've heard my ER4S is from the headphone out of an old (1986) Sony component CD player. So full of power and life. It drives them just fine with the volume knob barely turned up. If only I could get that out of a...

What's a good place to get custom tips for the ER4S?

Quote: They're actually pretty close...with a little help. I've got the ER4S and the HF5. I used the HF5 with a 100 ohm impedance adapter, and it was pretty close to the ER4S. Just a tad warmer with a tiny bit more bass and a tiny bit less detail. But I really like the way my ER4S...

    The Etymotics HF5 Thread

I've had the HF5s for about 6 months now, and I just got a pair of ER4Ss a few days ago. Using a mini3 amp, and iPod 5.5G, cf modded with Rockbox, q-0.8 OGG music files. EQ off, crossfeed on with default settings. Used a 100 ohm adapter with the HF5s for most of the time I had them.   The...

    Etymotic ER 4?

Quote: I use a 100 ohm impedance adapter and mini3 amp with my HF5s. They sound even smoother now. A step above my RE0s.

First good set of full-size cans

As the title states, I'm looking for my first good set of full-size cans. I've got Koss KSC75s, Portapros, and JVC HA-RX700s, but I want something high-end. I'm used to IEMs and my main set are Etymotic HF5s (with a 100 ohm impedance adapter). If I could get something as good as or better with a...

    New IEM from ROLAND

Quote:   Roland has been around for a while, and they're well-known for their keyboards, synths, amps, etc. There's even "Roland-ready" Strats. On the link in the first post, click on "products" to see some of their other goodies.   This is the first I've heard of a Roland IEM.

pimping out a second generation ipod

Quote: Unless you hack the firmware and can write your own DAC drivers (or can get someone to make you a custom build of rockbox to work with the new DAC), I really don't think that option is going to work.
