Anybody prefer the ORIGINAL Hornet to the "M" Hornet?
Seems like you gain something & you lose something. No major changes seem to have been made, so it's reasonable. Cap aside, must just be a different 'tuning' for the AD8397, which is a very ductile & responsive chip in this regard.- inconnu

"Mystery" Amp
I thought the same as I requested my black one. Though I will say that I find the silver finish classy...and the ugly black plastic knob is less ugly in person thanks to the mini size- inconnu

With a 350 mW RMS on 32 ohms output (arguably on DC power) it is supposed to have some kind of current buffer at the OPAs' outputs. Interesting specifications indeed. I just bought one a couple of days ago.- inconnu

My full review of the PPAS
I agree with your description of the LM6171 and AD8058, except that the AD8058 differs from the former in that it has a richer tonality (especially buffered). Since tonality is vital for me, I don't dislike the AD nearly as much as I dislike the LM.- inconnu

Portable all discrete amp? IC's no good!?
To me the AD8620 is one of the "musical" op-amps. An op-amp that I would label as "hi-fi rather than music" being the LM6171/2. I really think that our so different sources (before the cables) are the culprit for our different perceptions.- inconnu

Minibox-E Hifi Portable Amplifier
It's all relative. I guess that it would be unfair to a typical chinese customer to sell the amp at a price that is out of proportion with the relative cost of parts and manufacture in China. In the same way, I guess it would be unfair competition for the western market to keep the prices as low...- inconnu

Portable all discrete amp? IC's no good!?
I have the AD8620 in the Xtra, and I don't recognize the same attributes as you described. I hear a refined unexaggerated treble, and present intimate and full mids. Ok, the mids might be just tad dryish, but not lightweight. Mightn't it be that yuor source or cables are influencing your...- inconnu
