Best portable over ear headphones for rock under $200?
relax. I just offered my two cents. And I'm happy that you can think of multiple better cans than the Momentums..... in your opinion.- MattAnthony1990

Best portable over ear headphones for rock under $200?
If your willing to buy an amp, just spend that extra $100 on some headphones that can be driven easily by an ipod/iphone/etc. I've got the Sennheiser Momentums which are typically $350, but you can find them for $300 if you shop around the internet a bit. Great cans, easy to drive, no complaints.- MattAnthony1990

Best AMP/DAC for $600 or less for PSB M4U 2
I'm assuming this is a desktop and not a portable set up. If that is the case check out ALO Audio's PanAm Dac/Amp combo. It is $500 and generally receives great reviews.- MattAnthony1990

Best headphones under 400
If you want a closed can +1 for the Momentums. I've owned mine since last October and absolutely love them. Comfortable, great sound signature, ample bass, pretty much the whole package.- MattAnthony1990

Recommendations for Portable Amplifiers
For around $350 if your looking for a standalone amp and not an amp/dac combo I'd go with either ALO Audio's The National or RSA's P-51 Mustang.- MattAnthony1990

Amp or Amp/DAC?
The dac component inside FiiOs will not work with iPods, iPhones, or other phones as an fyi. If your looking to use an external dac on the go with an iPod or iPhone you'll need something that is Apple licensed such as the Fostex HP-P1 (dac/amp hybrid) or the cypherlab's algorhythm solo...- MattAnthony1990

Should I get a portable amp or DAC, if so, which one?
If your looking for home use get a dac/amp combo. What to get depends wildly on your budget. A great combo for a reasonable price is ALO Audio's Pan Am, it is $500 I believe. Schiit Audio also produces dac and amp components.- MattAnthony1990

Alo Audio Rx Mk3-B+ vs Cypher Labs AlgoRhythm Duet
I'd get the duet, people generally say it has a lower sound floor than ALO's amp + it is $50 cheaper. Either way though you won't be disappointed, both those amps are designed to compliment the CLAS well.- MattAnthony1990

Is it worth getting really high-end headphones if your source is 320kbps audio files?
If you can reliably hear the difference and identify a lossless format from 320 kbps in a double blind test I'll eat my shoe. Nobody is claiming that lossless and lossy formats are inherently the same, the argument is that the human ear cannot detect the differences between those two formats...- MattAnthony1990

ALO Audio RXMKIII Balanced Portable Amplifier Impressions
It has nothing to do with their timeline, I find the HD800 to be a superior headphone in virtually every facet to the HD 650 in my experience trying both sets of cans. I'd also like to remind you that this is a portable headphone amp thread, which the Zana Deux is clearly not. Your...- MattAnthony1990

Advice for first audiophile headphone
The Sennheiser Momentum is a great option, in that price range, however the drivers are less than 50mm, not that it hurts the sound quality.- MattAnthony1990

Is it worth getting really high-end headphones if your source is 320kbps audio files?
true that, I have all my music in lossless and will be the first to admit I cannot hear any discernible difference between those and 320 kbps (I definitely can with 192 kbps). That being said, yes, I know it is a superior sound. Being an audiophile is often about making a higher quality rig or...- MattAnthony1990

So, I'm looking for that perfect amp...
It's a great piece of hardware, my only critique is that it only uses 60-70% of the volume pot, but that's being awfully nitpicky- MattAnthony1990

So, I'm looking for that perfect amp...
The pb2 is a great choice to, I'm just partial to the Duet due to the low sound floor and the fact it stacks perfectly with the CLAS and an iPod.- MattAnthony1990

audiophile in training day 1- where to start
the DAC in FiiOs do not actually work with an iPod on the amp component does. The DAC only works in FiiOs with computers, hence why its still tagged as a dac/amp combo which is misleading. A portable set up on the cheap? Hmmmmmm.... I'd go with the **(Colorfly C3 and C&C BH2**, that'll give you...- MattAnthony1990

use the Solo -dB with the Duet and balanced cables. Easily your best option and the Duet has an extremely low noise floor so its more well suited for IEMs than the RX MkIII-B+- MattAnthony1990

ath-m50, dt-1350, what's next?
the refinement and sound quality will both be superior with an open can simply because there is no reverberation. if your looking for a superior set of closed cans it depends on what you wanna spend. I'd recommend the Sennheiser Momentums or V-MODA 100s if your looking to spend $300 or...- MattAnthony1990
