The iBasso Dongle DAC Thread – DC03 Pro | DC04 Pro | DC06 Pro | DC Elite | ...
Apologies if asked already, is there a way to control gain/digital filters via Macbook? Specifically for DC03 Pro, and I guess DC06 Pro, DC Elite- maricius

Three Brand New Earphones: Sony IER-Z1R, IER-M9 and IER-M7
I've been using the M7 since 2019 and haven't been tempted to upgrade yet! I normally make sure whatever my purchase is to be able to last 5 years in terms of improvements of quality within the price range. I will always advise changing the Sony cable and the ear tips. I'm not yet a huge cable...- maricius

aptX Adaptive / aptX Lossless USB Transmitters

aptX Adaptive / aptX Lossless USB Transmitters
Yeah I was able to force AptX Classic previously on an older Macbook but the change in sound quality from even that to AAC was noticeable for both my devices—both devices being the iFi Zen Blue and the Shanling UP5. Thanks for the tip, I guess I'll have to skip the KB9P or find a friend first...- maricius

aptX Adaptive / aptX Lossless USB Transmitters
New to this thread and honestly wasn't expecting I'd be looking for a device like this (or that they already existed). Finally picked up a new laptop and chose the MB Air but unfortunately learned that the last two OS versions basically castrated any way to force AptX output. I gave AAC a shot...- maricius

Three Brand New Earphones: Sony IER-Z1R, IER-M9 and IER-M7
They have completely different sound signatures from the last time I tried both side by side. The M7 is a lot closer to neutral. The Z1R objectively has superior, detail retrieval, soundstage size, imaging, and bass punch. However, I did not like its lower midrange. I would not say it has a suck...- maricius

Three Brand New Earphones: Sony IER-Z1R, IER-M9 and IER-M7
I think I remember what you mean by a grainy aspect to the B2 sound. I believe I was still using the Sony hybrids at that time and there was something slightly off with the timbre with the B2 despite what I found to be better clarity in the upper midrange over the M7! It's actually the lower mid...- maricius

Three Brand New Earphones: Sony IER-Z1R, IER-M9 and IER-M7
I'm still on my M7 after 2 years and I haven't felt the urge to upgrade yet! I've recently picked up Shanling UP5 which pushes the soundstaging and spacing even further as well as adding some sparkle and clarity to the upper mids as well as tightening the the bass. I'm currently just saving for...- maricius

Shanling UP5 - Our new flagship portable Bluetooth DAC/AMP
Might have been mentioned already but any impressions on SE vs balanced output on the UP5 for more efficient IEMs? I read the change is significant for the BTR5 but I'm wondering if it's the same for the UP5.- maricius

Would you happen to have done DAC line out comparisons between the R6 2020 and the iDSD? How about with IEMs? :)- maricius

iFi audio iDSD Diablo - A portable reference done our way!
@Sebastien Chiu @iFi audio may I ask what the official recommendation/solution is for connecting the Diablo to an unbalanced headphone or speaker amplifier? Is there no issue connecting directly 4.4mm to RCA or is some kind of transformer necessary?- maricius

so balanced 4.4mm -> balanced XLR -> XLR to RCA, is that correct? Do you think having a 4.4mm to RCA made would work the same way?- maricius

iFi audio iDSD Diablo - A portable reference done our way!
I get this too. I just wish IEMs would get the same respect for MAX sound quality instead of it being relegated to "The X Series is good enough." I mean are we in this hobby just for good enough and IEMs aren't only for portable use… They're just as good sounding at home where the differences of...- maricius

Based on the impressions noted here, it seems at least the DAC section of the Hiby R6 would be superior to that of the Hip DAC. Why not get an external amplifier for more power instead and not a DAC/amp. Lots of options for powerful portable amplifiers- maricius

iFi audio iDSD Signature - The saga continues!
Apologies if this has been asked previously but what are the output impedances of the onboard IEMatch? I recall the OG iDSD had a larger output impedance on High but not on Ultra. I’m not sure what the exact numbers on Signature are. Does it change on the S-balanced out?- maricius

HiBy R6 2020 User Impressions
Will you be trying it out of the balanced output as well? Additionally, you can compare the sound signature of DAC sctions by connecting it to your iDSD’s audio line-in so they are being amplified equally! Are you also noticing the thinness with your IEMs? Or just with your Beyers and Focals(?)- maricius

HiBy R6 2020 User Impressions
You mentioned in your review that you're finding better results with even an older gen external portable amplifier for harder to drive phones. Would you say the same for IEMs that do not need the power? If so, what portable amps with maximising IEM quality as the main goal would you suggest...- maricius

ThieAudio Signature Series Tribrid IEMs
Has anyone had the chance to compare the Clairvoyance and the IER-M9? I'm certain the Monarch would be brighter and have a thinner lower midrange than the M9 but I'm curious as to where the Clairvoyance falls in that balance.- maricius

HiBy R6 2020 User Impressions
Would love to hear your thoughts and more comparisons to the iDSD post burn in! I'm currently using the OG Micro iDSD and it's slowly dying on me. I'm wondering if DAP sound quality has finally caught up to older gen transportable DAC/Amps, at least for IEMs and more efficient headphones.- maricius

May I ask what DAP you've all found to pair well with the M7 and M9? The iBasso DX160 is my current candidate but I don't mind spending a bit more for what you guys think might be even better pairings.- maricius
