The top is the '03 DT990Pro, the bottom is the regular '03 DT990. They're identical sonicaly, the Pro models have a harder clamp on the head.

On the other hand, I like the sound of the older DT990 better. I find it to be more warm, textured and organic than the new '05 edition. The New DT990 definitely looks better though... I see why people like the '05 better though, it has a more traditionaly "hifi" sound.

You're going to have a HELL of a time finding something that sounds more clear than the MDR-V6, even the DT880 doesn't sound as clear. The V6 has a ful blown treble emphasis, maybe you should look into the Sony SA line (SA1000, 3000, 5000).

I'm sure it also helps that you've dialed up the bass on those tone controls you've got there.. that'll definitely "open right up" the bottom end.

What about the UM1? It's the same soundsig as UM2 but smaller body.

The mids on the CK7 are great. They're clean and neutral, the bass doesn't muddy up the mids like in other canalphones.
