I think you are looking in the wrong direction then. DT770 is headphone and Penrose is a Headset, even putting that aside it is a "Gaming" Headphone at best. Versus a DT770 which is more of a studio headphone. So by default the tuning on the Penrose is way different, You won't hear the same...

Are you sure it is the same frame? Either way, might be a codec incompatibility with Win 10? Perhaps. What player are you using? Personally I recommend using something like PotPlayer and install the codecs it comes with. You might need to dial it in a bit, but I quite like the way it comes.

I didn't believe in burn in, until I got my speakers, also around the same time I got the X2's incidentally. I think I may have not given the X2 enough time, before I put them aside only to rediscover them years later. ^^ Among other things... But why I believe in burn in... I had my speakers...

It is sparkly but never sharp, if you pair it with the right AMP / DAC combo. That or you just listening to it way too loud.

From how they describe the sound itself on the X3 page on Philips website. It wouldn't seem to be much different. Or at least, that is what we all hope for. ^^
