First time seeing the frequency curve, and WOW, that treble! I'm not so sure anymore as it appears that the sound profile may not be suited for me personally.- animefreeks

Thanks for the insight on this! I'm wondering if the HE6se really does need an actual speaker amp (100w+ per channel) to drive properly - as in there are no headphone desktop amps out there that can drive this. Also noticed that Schiit specifically mentioned the HE-6 on the Lyr 3 product page...- animefreeks

My best experience so far is with the Lyr 3 using the Tung-Sol new production tube. Believe it or not, this 25 dollar tube actually is a better pairing than the 200 dollar Tung-Sol Round Plate, least for the Ananda. Dynamics stand out much more, bass attack and slam is CONSIDERABLY higher...- animefreeks

Sorry if this has been discussed already, but like most recent people here, I'm also considering the Adorama version of these. The question is, how is everyone's opinion on these as either an upgrade or a sidegrade to the HFM Ananda? I have the Ananda's already and can't help but notice that the...- animefreeks

Schiit Lyr 3 Tube rolling thread.....
Ordered a new production Tung-Sol 6SN7GTB this past week. Arrived today, and first impressions is that while it's definitely an upgrade over the stock JJ 6SN7 that Schiit provides by default, it's a bit too sharp and harsh for my tastes. It's also VERY fast in attack, probably the fastest tube...- animefreeks

I'm slightly kicking myself for not getting a haircut as soon as I'd like because of COVID. Something as simple as shortening the hair around the ear changes the sound signature on the Anandas for the better. I was surprised on the detail and bass that I gained from the tighter seal on the...- animefreeks

Just a heads up, the NeoMusicia cables reduce/change the bass so if you're looking for bass, steer clear of these. They however, shift the overall sound impression towards detail and treble. Bass control is tightened, sub-bass rumble is reduced.- animefreeks

I'd say it's normal. Schiit amps have amazing linearity with their volume control. I have the Lyr 3, and I currently use it on low gain with volume at 3 o'clock. I found that low gain offers less distortion and static than high gain, and this is with a ferrite choke USB cable plugged into an...- animefreeks

Up to you, it's metal after all. I bent mine gently at the top only to the point of easing the pressure and not to the point of creasing it the other way. Didn't seem to help much. I think breaking in the earpads work better. They seem to get more comfortable with constant and consistent wear...- animefreeks

Power will require more costly equipment to get a cleaner signal. If money was no object, I would buy a double conversion UPS and have a Panamax power conditioner plugged into that to get clean, constant 120v. Then you have to ensure the cables are up to spec. Even with all this, there is no...- animefreeks

The NeoMusicia cables has slightly tighter bass control but with less bass, and a slightly brighter treble. Mids sound recessed a bit. Not sure if this falls in line with other's experience. Overall, sound is a tad bit colder and drier than the stock cables. edit: There definitely is a...- animefreeks

The Ananda's are on the stock 10ft cable. The HD 700 are on the 10ft NeoMusicia cables. The 10ft NeoMusicia cables for the Ananda arrives today. I can reevaluate again later tonight.- animefreeks

Short review, and an interesting A/B comparison: Setup: foobar2000, ASIO output to Schiit Lyr 3 MB w/ Tung-Sol VT-231 round plate black glass tube. Swapped cans back and forth, played songs twice each time. Track: Johnny Cash - Hurt (FLAC 44.1k, 739 kbps). HD 700: Sometimes a wider, albeit...- animefreeks

The Ananda's might just be my endgame cans for a while. However OTOH I'm also considering exploring more brands and expanding my collection beyond Sennheiser and HFM. I'm currently doing research on Focal headphones and am looking at the Focal Elex x MassDrop.- animefreeks

My first pair had fitment issues with the driver housing contacting the metal yoke causing it to get scratched and unable to adjust once on my head. This is immediately noticeable. No issues with drivers on the first pair. My second pair is much better with fitment, and no issues with scoring on...- animefreeks

I apologize if I wasn't being clear, I meant to say the carrying case or the packaging and not the driver housing. Then I realized that the packaging probably didn't cost too much to begin with since it's leatherette and possibly fake satin lining on the inside so the money saved by cheaping out...- animefreeks

It's strange that they would cheap out on the cable but yet the case itself is designed with luxury in mind.- animefreeks

Just purchased the NeoMusicia cables because I can no longer tolerate the stock cable. Will update on sound differences. Arrives Wednesday, July 29. Hoping that bass control is tightened like you mentioned. On certain tracks, the stock cables sound "sloppy" and the bass extends into the mids...- animefreeks

Gonna use RCA cables here as an example. There is a difference between extra cheap dollar store cables and a decent but not expensive 20 dollar quality cable. Cheaper cables mostly lack EMI protection and will pick up static and distortion from the environment whereas a quality cable will offer...- animefreeks

The way I see it, the $22 NeoMusicia cables are one of those "screw it, I need this now otherwise I don't have working headphones" kind of purchase. Personally I wouldn't buy them with the expectation of an upgrade to the sound.- animefreeks

Unless the cable revision happened overnight, mine are still translucent that you can see the inner copper wiring. This may be why it looks tan. They also do still feel cheap so it may be the same cable overall. Some rattling occurs when the cable is moved around and the inner cable bumps...- animefreeks

I don't believe the material is cloth based, more of a very thin foam. I noticed that the newer revision has a circular or rounded shape to the dust filter whereas the older one has a square shaped screen. The newer one is also more dense than the older one. Unless there have been more than 1...- animefreeks
