Frustrated, Feel like I will never find comfortable full-size cans....
I have a similar problem. The AKG 701s aren't that uncomfortable but my ears still touch the inside edges of the pads. I found the Sennheiser HD 800s extremely comfortable - - the space enclosed by the ear pads is very large and my ears didn't touch the pads themselves; this is almost...- mingde10467

My Stax SR-007- - Does It Need to be Repaired?
When I replaced one of the ear pads on my 007s the part of the metal spring that fits in the center of the pad attachment plate slipped through the plate and made a small tear in the plastic membrane (?) below the plate. The sound, at least for now, is unaffected. Do I need to get this...- mingde10467

RSA Raptor and K-1000
Thanks for all the helpful comments. I've had two speaker amps for the K-1000s - - a Creek 4330 integrated (40 watts/channel) and a Sugden 25-watt/per channel class A integrated. Both were purchased around 2002/3 before I became acquainted with Head-fi. The Sugden broke once and I had it...- mingde10467

RSA Raptor and K-1000
Does anyone out there regularly use the K-1000 with the Raptor? In reviewing the Raptor, 6Moons mentioned that Ray Samuels sent his XLR to 1/4" adaptor so the reviewer could try the K-1000s out. The combination worked but wasn't ideal. Nevertheless, it would be nice to use all my phones with...- mingde10467

How to Keep Phones Happy & Dust Free?
If you're very fussy, you might also consider getting something that blows a stream of air to clean off dust. Rather than canned air, which runs out, I invested $12 in a Giotto Rocket Blaster (yup, that's the name). It's used by photographers to clean lenses, cameras, and other gear. The GRB is...- mingde10467

Audiologists in NYC?
I want to get a pair of ear molds made in order to buy some iems. Has anyone used an audiologist in NYC, preferably Manhattan, accustomed to the technique specified on the UE and JH Audio websites? The UE website used to list individual audiologists but, unless I missed it, no longer does...- mingde10467

Sennheiser HD800 Appreciation Thread
Some speaker companies (Harbeth might be one of them) keep records of frequency response. This facilitates replacement of individual drivers with an exact match if, down the line, something breaks or malfunctions. As to differences between individual HD 800s - - the variations in frequency...- mingde10467

SPL Phonitor, new reference amp?
Given the unique design of the K-1000 - - small speakers that can be adjusted to float free of the listener's ears, is it possible that it isn't an ideal choice to test the Phonitor's crossfeed circuits? It would be interesting to see if there was any difference in the crossfeed effect with...- mingde10467

sugden headmaster just BLEW UP!!!
I think you need to contact the importer. They're the ones who repaired a Sugden amp I own. Last I heard it was Stanalog Imports located somewhere in New York State. They should have a website. You'd probably need to send it to them and they would give you an estimate for the repair work.- mingde10467

The Stax thread (New)
I've learned that the earpads from the MK2 fit the SR-007. Can anyone advise me as to whether they find the MK2 pads (lambskin) more comfortable and less moisture-producing than the synthetic leather pads that come with the SR007? New pads are expensive so I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks!- mingde10467

SPL Phonitor, new reference amp?
Thanks for the excerpt fkclo. I haven't had a chance to download the review. The reviewer was evaluating it from the p-o-v of someone who records and mixes music. If it not only gave a more realistic sense of space but also eliminated listener fatigue (as claimed in the Phonitor manual), that...- mingde10467

I'm in NYC. A few years ago I checked out places to rent a dac. I noticed that some rented Stax earspeakers for monitoring. Google area recording studios or places that rent recording equipment - - you might have some luck.- mingde10467

Yes I know, thank you. I e-mailed Arcam about a year ago and they said they didn't have an upgrade for the CD-23, the "legendary CD-23" they replied. Maybe I'll try again.- mingde10467
