I thought I was the only person with this problem. I'm not sure if it's my hearing or just my equipment.

How is the NFB-12 with Denons? I'm thinking about upgrading my amp/dac to the nfb-12, but I'm not sure what it will sound like with Denon D2000s

What amp were you using? I'm about the buy the D2000's. Right now I'm using a Nuforce uDac 2.  

Foobar's volume is at 100%, while the amp's volume is maybe 40%.  

But, afterall it does match the iPod.

Bump.   I've been reading good reviews about the Shure 750DJs and the Shure SRH840. How do those perform in comparison to my M50s?

It has now been a year since I've owned my M50s, and I think I really need to upgrade now. I loved the bass on my M50's, so keep in mind that I'm looking for a lot of bass. I'm not sure whether or not to upgrade my headphone amplifier, unless I need to. My budget is around $600-700.

I think you might need to think twice before buying headphones that are $600 more then the headphones you have right now. It would be better if you spent less money and got something like the Grado 325i's. That's just my opinion though, go ahead and buy the rs1's or lcd-2's, that's your choice.

If you like a lot of bass get them. If not try something else like the Grado SR80i's.

You're not going to need an amp. I used a FiiO E7 and it sounded almost identical to an unamped M50.   Quote:

Audio-Technica ATH-M50s. They can be bought for less then $150 on ebay. They're easy to drive so an amp won't be required. And they have a decent amount of bass, but no too overpowering.
