Focal Utopia General Discussion
@Donald D ;Brilliant, and thankyou for linking me to this... with regards to these statements; For me THAT is the big benefit that was gained when moving to a high quality LadderDAC (/'R2R')... When I used a Topping D90 it sounded 'technically accurate' to the audio that was recorded ,but the...- whitedragem

Cardas Clear Beyond
erm.... 1,2,3,4,5.... nope.. unless I skipped a few pages,.. we never even got FIVE... (dang?!) I bought some CARDAS ear monitors simply due to the cable they used (and materials and philosophy put into practice with that part). like some of the best speakers being 'one way' designs.. those...- whitedragem

Astell&Kern AK Zero1 Hybrid IEM
Must BUYs!! (factoring these elements; ) studio/reference grade IEMs. (no flavour of their own imparted, so much as just 'getting out of the way' and showing what is there) will rip apart anything and render a perfect playback. soundstage is accurate. I prefer to large over ears in this regard...- whitedragem

Digital Transport Quality (& why it totally DOES NOT matter)…
yeah totally.. it is in the recording (cause playback is ALWAYS perfect!) (I do videos because I do not typically do sarcasm, text =loss of tone of voice: I suppose it isnt in the metrics that forums allow us to see) These shills at Yamaha (this thread is about transport quality NOT...- whitedragem

DENAFRIPS FPGA Firmware Update (12TH Anniv.)
I can only comment on my parallel situation, playing with a R2R ‘ladder’ DAC.. (different brand though).. for whatever reason it doesn’t ship in “it’s best sounding mode (to me)”. When I went to effort to put it in NOS mode, it sounded not dramatically different to the 8x oversampling mode, and...- whitedragem

New Audio-gd R-7, R-7HE R-8, R-27, R-27HE, R-28 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs and DAC/amps
Alright on a 2019 R28, but likely has parralels with other units; not sure if most users toyed with their respective modes: NOS in 'mode 3' was so noticably an improvement for me, that I'd hardly call it the same DAC. given how much fast A/B switching is required to spot 'small' differences...- whitedragem

New Audio-gd R-7, R-7HE R-8, R-27, R-27HE, R-28 Flagship Resistor Ladder DACs and DAC/amps
Hoping 'not noise' (some threads love innane stuff like this post); My 'new' (second hand) Audio-Gd turned up today. (faith in people restored, thankyou S) The Audio-Gd 3.1 (dual Wolfson 8741 Delta Sigmas) can now go to the bedroom stack, or be on rotation as a loaner DAC (more likely)...- whitedragem

^^^ Lamb are probably my favourite Drum and Bass outfit. Fear of Fours, whilst not my favourite album, gets a lot of play when learning what my kit can do... DENAFRIPS FPGA Firmware Update (12TH Anniv.)
as an example of a transport altering the texture and tonality SO MUCH in 'the den' system 'so much', was when I installed a better DAP (Questyle QP1R).. I literally had to trim the subwoofer a couple of decibels. when we get a nice stream of zeros and ones, rather than a fudged stream...- whitedragem

^^^^^Thanks. DENAFRIPS FPGA Firmware Update (12TH Anniv.)
Not necessarily. If PC gaming is representative of a parallel,.. the squeaky wheel gets the oil, sure. ;but I would argue the internet is NOT representative of'the real world'. I read this and thought of Head-Fi...
...nothing further? I have had Sony parts that wouldnt do firmware updates if they didnt find a Sony USB cable. (that blew me away, recognising it obviously required a specidfic config/chip to be recognised) (I would never argue against a quality cable for firmware updating... but I did freak...- whitedragem

DENAFRIPS FPGA Firmware Update (12TH Anniv.)
havent read full thread yet... if tolerances to jitter have been altered at all, via FPGA reprogramming, transport (upstream) digital SENDING might make the world of difference. if anyone wants to note what their transport is (and cables/power filtration used etc) and what mode they are gunning...- whitedragem

Astell&Kern AK Zero1 Hybrid IEM
I feel, for me, the usable "perfection" volume range on the AK Zero1 is in the ballpark of 65dB-80dB ;a little beyond where I like to listen and I notice the drivers lose some volume cohesion, or 'aspects of flatline'. I have a strong feeling these (AK Zero2) are built to take that pure audio...- whitedragem

Digital Transport Quality (and why it *may* matter).
first post, attempted to introduce how overt the changes between two price point 'transports' were to sound quality. I am super sensitive to playing back 44khz at 'non even sample' multiples (like 48khz). on android phones we can lock the transmit to 44khz. (on some BT IEMs it can even make an...- whitedragem

This thread isnt for you mon amigo. the facts are out there... you want to debunk what you feel 'isnt a thing', this is not the place. this doesnt need to get personal, we do not need to attack people who think differently to us.. almost on the mark... I studied Naturopathy for awhile, and have a 'few years 'of Psych under the belt too... like many in the sound science sub like to state, that mind state affects hearing,.. when we are scared, we can get pannicky about it,..
