Building a dedicated music server, looking for case suggestions
If you want to get really creative you could use an old nintendo/Xbox 360 case, the mac g4 cube case was also pretty nice looking too. No where does it say that you have to use a straight pc case for a pc, lol.- gochuckster

Audio-GD NFB-11
I took option #4 and swapped my order for the NFB-2. Had a y2 previously and really liked the Wolfson chip. Here's hoping that double the fun means even better performance!- gochuckster

Audio-GD NFB-11
Just sent an email to them at audio-gd@126.com got an answer pretty quick saying to send $$$ paypal. $302.7, what a bargain! Can't wait to play with mine. Thinking about dumping my Xonar STX now, kinda seems unnecessary.- gochuckster

Turntable vs. Computer?
Even if you eschew the arguments for the superiority of analog audio quality vs digital there's a certain romance associated with pure analog audio and turntables in general. Not only is the potential there for higher quality playback, the way you listen to music is more lyrical. With a...- gochuckster

PS3 to headphone amp to speakers
I'm doing something similar. I'm running my PS3 to my Samsung Plasma via HDMI and then using the toslink out on the Samsung to my Gamma 2 DAC and then to my NAD pre & power amps. The D10 is probably one of the best portable DACs you can get and you unless you want surround you could get a higher...- gochuckster

new dac search?
How about a budget version of the Buffalo Sabre 32s? If you don't go dual mono, limit the extras, and pick an affordable case you'll be able to hit really close to your target budget and get a lot more performance.- gochuckster

PC vs Mac
I use both, and with ASIO support the only real difference I sense is in ergonomics. I've had numerous PC component failures over the years, and numerous iMac failures. I'd recommend under-spending on whatever you get and trading up within two years. That seems to be the survival rate of most of...- gochuckster

home office system: DAC & other comp's questions
Custom Buffalo Sabre 32 DAC tricked out in Dual Mono is prob. the best DAC you're money could buy. A lot of you $$ could be allocated to a few specific Headphones for different types of music, K1000s, Stax, HD800s, etc. I'd also recommend a couple of high end headphone amps like balanced beta 22...- gochuckster

Xonar essence stx or DAC
I've been using the STX with a performance M3/S11 combo for a while now. It's great, but I also just got a Gamma 2 + Mini-3. I'd say that the mini combo competes with the full-size rig and the gamma 2 blows the stx out of the water on paper and IMHO from my subjective listening tests. Better...- gochuckster

iPod: Is This The Beginning of the End?
I've stuck with my 5G 60GB model since 2004. I ended up adopting an "economy of use" attitude about syncing music. I only carry around music that I know I'm going to want to listen to, or the most recent additions to my library. Nowadays I usually just read on the subway and leave music...- gochuckster

NEED:First pair of headphones
If you're willing to get a decent amp then the K701s are hard to beat unless you only listen to Rock. Then the 325i's would probably be ok. AKGs are cheaper though.- gochuckster

Best headphones for Beatles music?
I love the beatles through my K701s on vinyl and pc>flac. Lots of detail and none of the shrillness you'd think would come with recordings done in a bass-light era.- gochuckster

As for newer stuff: True Blood, Stargate Atlantis, Weeds, Hung, Deadwood. Some of those shows get played for comedy more often than you'd think to wonderful results.- gochuckster

HD650 vs. K702 vs. Pro 900
You could always mod the 600s with 650 drivers and limit your upgrade pricetag to 70+650 cables, which you can get used for cheap.- gochuckster

My Maurice Lacroix is currently living in a box at my parent's house. It didn't make the move to NYC with me last year, lol. Probably a wise decision. Gold face with a black leather band. Ahh how I miss it.- gochuckster
