Recessed mids? I'd have thought that was the last accusation to be levelled at the 650. After owning the 650 for 2 years I tried the AT AD900 and 700 and found them unacceptably recessed in the mids by comparison. The Beyer DT880 pro was better in that regard but waaaaay too bright. For me the 650 are ideally balanced except for the extreme treble, which could be a bit more prominent.

Listening to K701 and HD650 back to back, the mids sounds recessed on the latter. This is especially apparent on some recordings when the vocals sound so much further back than the rest of the mix. But our equipment and ears may be different.

What about Grado?

I don't get a discount on Grados. Plus I don't listen to rock all that much and I tried the SR-80 I believe and it just wasn't my cup of coffee.

How does it compare, soundwise?

The 900 have boost on the bass by 6-9db, tooo much even for me. The 701/2 are more balanced and they have bigger sound stage, by 20%. The instruments separation and the position are different and better on the 701/2 more air vibration all around. (open design Vs close). Overall the 900 are bit aggressive for me.

If you like this bass boost on the 900, they are great, they are more like high quality basshead hps, and a big up great over the HD-650.

Hmmm interesting... I do like my bass. Is the bass overpowering in the 900s like say the DT770s? Also how does the bass boost work? Is it automatically built in or it there a knob or button for it?

I don't think HD650 and AKG702 is suitable for hip hop and electronics, the bass are too light to be called 'fun' with that kind of genre, IMO. But they're a a bliss with Jazz and classical, choir.

How about Denon D5000, they have nice and deep bass, but recessed in mids and little sibilance, but I think they have the nicest bass for hip hop.

K702 is superb for electronic. Nice deep bass but not bloaty. hip hop I hardly even know what it´s though

As for boosted bass Acix just mention that the stock 900 has a bass hump. But with the KeeS mod you can adjust that down to K701 levels if you would wish pretty much

It´s not as bad as the DT 770 Pro but in stock the bass can take some attention from the amazing mid range the 900 got and I preferr it more balanced.

Yes, the 900 bass is overpowering, but maybe you'll like it, maximum you can make the famous KeeS mod . The Pro-900s are few levels above the DT770s in any spec...

BTW, I love 702 with any electro.

Hmmm I love my DT770s but they have fallen out of grace since I got my HD600. Now they are relegated to just computer listening. so the pro 900 are just upgraded DT770s? Hmmm sounds like the perfect hip hop/techno can.

What do you mean by over bass? I like the bass of the DT770s but they have too much, the HD600 don't have enough. I'm thinking the Pro 900 may be that perfect medium. Tho I do like the impact of the AKGs. The bass isn't boomy but it has impact

Is it worth the extra like $250?

You could always mod the 600s with 650 drivers and limit your upgrade pricetag to 70+650 cables, which you can get used for cheap.
