I am looking for a DAC to replace the onboard sound of a laptop. I'll primarily be using it for headphones. My laptop doesn't have a digitial out, so I'd see that I'm limited to expresscard or USB.

Right now I'm looking at the e-mu 0202 and cakewalk ua-1g. So I'd like to hear any comparisons on those as they are similarly priced, around $100 and thats around how much i am willing to spend. Or any other suggestions will also be appreciated.

Go for a used Gamma 1. It can usually be had used for less than $150 and has all the inputs you require. Very portable and very good RIAA testing results.

Or if you want to go really minimal, get a BantamDAC.
