Upgrade from NE-700x
I just upgraded my NE-6 headphones which I thought were quite good for the money. I bought the NE-700x after many favourable reviews. I am very happy with the result. They have more definition in the higher frequencies, and have nice bass as well. Mostly I was impressed how the sound stage...- Palpatine

What's so bad about noise cancelling headphones?
Yeah... the sound quality of many of the NC phones I have heard does not justify the price tag. I would consider them for plane travel, if they were considerably cheaper. A good pair of IEMs for a fraction of the price do their job better, and sound great. I happen to like the monster beats...- Palpatine

It can sometimes be hard to sell something that you have enjoyed inthe past, even if you don't use it anymore...but it is a good idea though.- Palpatine

The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread
Quote: I sold my HD650 to get the 600 ohm Beyers. I feel they sound quite different. The Beyers have a smoother and better defined top end. The also sound great with a tube amp. I found the HD650 to sound better with a Burson SS amp that I tried...- Palpatine

Ultrasone portable closed and isolation.
Yeah, my Pro 750 sounded quite a bit tighter with my portable amp than w/o, and the volume was better and clean at that higher level. You could get by w/o one though.- Palpatine

Worst headphones you ever heard?
An old pair of Koss headphones that I bought 25 years ago. Auditioning them was impossible...and breaking the clamshell ( the fact that they were in a clamshell should have been warning enough ) open made it impossible to return. I forget the model number...- Palpatine

Bored of my HD-595s - looking for an upgrade
I found that the DT 880 600 ohm weren't much harder to drive than the 250 ohm version. I suspect the same is true of the Dt 990. these phones really benefit from a strong tube amp IMO.- Palpatine

Denon AH-D7000
I'd rather spend moolah on getting a better DAC or amp, than fiddle with cables. The stock D7000 cable is very good to begin with anyway.- Palpatine

AKG K701 vs. Beyerdynamic DT880
I really like the K702, bur with my current amp the DT 880 600 ohm is much better. When I get my SS, I will again purchase the K702. But...it is a completely different phone than the DT 880 600 ohm. I have really begun to love those Beyers. If you liked them too, I would suggest getting another...- Palpatine

Headphone suggestions for classical music fans? ( under $500)
Quote: I thought the HD 650 sounded a lot more balanced with the HA 160 than with my tube amp. The DT 880 600 ohm sound quite balanced to me with my tube amp. I agree though...the 702 sounded pretty great with the HA 160 as well. All are fine headphones for the moolah.- Palpatine
