You really can't go wrong with Brian Eno's ambient masterpieces. My favorite is Discreet Music, but the "Ambient" series (particularly "Music for Airports") is also quite relaxing and pretty. Personally I study with no music, because I get too distracted, no matter what I'm listening to.

Mahler has had a lot of melodies and motifs lifted from his works into more contemporary pieces. A very famous GE jingle is taken right from the finale of his 2nd symphony. This is pretty common with a lot of post-Romantic composers of Mahler's era.
