flinkenick's 17 Flagship IEM Shootout Thread (and general high-end portable audio discussion)
I have the Legend X and U12 (no t), the U 12 sits there gathering dust, maybe they're just too warm for my tastes...- milford30

LG V20 Sound Quality
One of the very few ways to get the best quality out of android phones to external dac, is UAPP on bit perfect mode. They use their own drivers skipping android upsampling, it's instantly noticeable, sounds much fuller and hiss drops to zero. Money well spend, I have not been able to (also...- milford30

At that price, you are better off looking at players like hiby r3, fiio m7, shanling m0 etc, the first 2 certainly provides better sound quality. If you insist on v20, refreb ones are around $120 USD shipped on ebay.- milford30

Empire Ears - Discussion & Impressions (Formerly EarWerkz)
Ares II has one of the better confort around ear in my experience - no hard memory loops, it seems you may need to look at super thin cables such as linum cable: https://www.earphonesolutions.com/ultra-thin-invisible-replaceable-linum-cable-with-mmcx-or-2-pin-connectors.html or you can try the...- milford30

That's already a great price, over 10% off, HK has no sales tax for them to avoid, so they can only take off the company profit tax. I've found for high end iems, the recommended retail price is often higher, then they give you a closer price to the MSRP when haggled. Nothing you can do, the...- milford30

Wow the adaptors are at the exact same spot in both pictures, Amazon jp is charging 3 times the price. Here's the link to the taobao item: https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a21wu.12321156-tw.0.0.6475442fXaJjMa&id=567081840762 or you can try ebay ones that are also expensive...- milford30

If you check the dealer's facebook page, it appears they have demo units, located in Toronto, and have a tax free offer in place of 15% off. 2999 cad is only 2 265 USD for the Legend X. Look at Hong Kong, no sale at dealers (I physically went to the shop and asked), 20800 HKD = 2 657 USD, that's...- milford30

Go Legend X if you want isolation, I'm looking to move away from 64 audio due to lack of isolation, i.e hearing train noises, loud talking etc... Although the old ADEL versions does appear to relief pressure. I also recommend going custom if possible if you are going for this price, I regret not...- milford30

Wow that's BS, your distributors charge 10% more than the website with no sales... That's like $400+ USD more expensive to get the LegendX from your distributors right now, why do you block us from getting from the website?- milford30

Attenuation converter activates high gain mode... which defeats the purpose, if you get 100Ohm+ converter, you get distortion in the lows.- milford30

Turn eq on in your music player and turn down the master volume tab. If you have poweramp that's under Settings -> Audio -> Replay Gain Get poweramp, use direct volume control then change steps to 100 (DVC). Btw don't get impedance jack like others are suggesting, it'll kick the phone...- milford30

If you read the mojo or uapp thread, they avoid sampling like the plague, up sampling or down sampling is suppose to be bad (I don't yet have the time to test it in uapp) due to software introduce distortion/noise. Ideally you want the output sampling rate to be the same as your music files...- milford30

Under Settings > Audio > Output, change to OpenSl ES Output if it isn't default (I think it is default if I remember correctly). Settings > Audio > Advanced Tweaks > Direct Volume Control ON + Volume levels set to 76 for finer control. Settings > Audio > Resampler > Resampler Type to SoX- milford30

I am fortunate enough to live in a place where I can demo a lot of equipment just a few bus stops from work. Considered AK120II/ FIIO X5, and felt they weren't better than the V20 from the brief AB. Only brought the Mojo after ABing and felt it's worth throwing out 400+ USD and the added...- milford30
