One question I've always wanted the answer to is whether any of the MDR-G and MDR-Q series have acceptable sound quality or if they all sound like trash.- Matvei

I mean best of the MDR-** series (H・AIR). MDR-CD* and MDR-M** are different series (H・AIR PRO MONITOR and H・AIR HI-FI, respectively) These should be the top models of each generation of two-digit H・AIR: Zeroth generation: MDR-80t, MDR-80ii (80ii features some improvements over the original...- Matvei

Has anyone heard the MDR-85? It apparently wasn't sold in Japan, where instead they got the MDR-65 with a detachable microplug renamed as the MDR-75. The MDR-94 looks to be the best of the MDR-** series but it's also impossible to find.- Matvei

Why not just use the walkman cable to connect a wm1z to a pha-3 if you need more power- Matvei

Yes. You can get the WM1Z for about 200,000 yen used and they want 400,000 for the new one. In terms of new they're around 300,000 yen, so only a 100,000 difference, but still.- Matvei

No, but it's not a benefit to you either and you could save a lot of money by buying one of the old models. I kind of doubt these sound $2000 better.- Matvei

I have Sony equipment as old as 1981 that I still use. So yes, the Android concern is valid.- Matvei

You can connect it to a phone and use it as an external DAC. I'd rather replace my phone when it is outdated than a $4000 DAP.- Matvei

SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2
This product doesn't make sense. It can't pass direct audio from most streaming apps, and in 5 years when it isn't getting updates anymore you won't even be able to install most third party apps. $4000 for a device running Android is stupid. I'd rather have the old version.- Matvei
