Incredible to think that these are now considered vintage…

Well how old do they have to be before you consider them vintage? Not even close to a vintage headphone though
The person I bought it from claimed to have owned it around ten years...

You don't need to ask for my opinion.Well how old do they have to be before you consider them vintage?

Google would have told you that most antique dealers consider that vintage starts at 20 years old, and antique starts at 100.
But you probably shouldn't believe anything you read on the Internet. All words and meanings are made up anyway, so go with conviction and put your own meaning to any words, or just make up your own.
Seems to be the way language is headed these days.
For now I'll just pretend you're a time traveller from 2033. This post will have aged VERY well by that time I'm sure.

Probably it's easier to call something vintage if it's not made any more rather than based on some number of years.
On the other hand, a lot of people call anything used "vintage" since it sounds better than used

These days you can walk into a department store and buy a 'vintage' pair of jeans and 'vintage' headphones, both brand new.Probably it's easier to call something vintage if it's not made any more rather than based on some number of years.

It's just being abused as a cheap marketing buzz word.

It’s called 2 pin DIN get an old BeoMaster Receiver for them. Plenty to find online for low prices. Will sound good on them.
Well, these plugs were intended to be plugged into loudspeaker outputs of an amp. At least all loudspeaker outs of full size amps used to look like this until the 80s in Germany.

Using the same TEAC HA-90SD DMP/DAC/AMP but would never mistreated that by putting a closed back on it. It is used to drive Grado Alessandro MS-2, Hifiman HE-4XX, Hifiman Arya, Stax SR001 modded and a SRM1/MKII mjolnir mod with Stax Lambda Nova Signature. That TEAC is my best Portable DAC/Amp combo. Onkyo made the same combo but used different opamps then the burr browns in this one. So the TEAC sounds way nicer on most headphones.Marantz SD-5

Certainly would love to get sigma’s already heard a normal bias version at a client. And a week ago a pro version at a friends home. That Pro version outshines in soundstage compared to my Lambda Nova Signature. Such a nice and special sound. Looking out for buying a pro version soon. Here is an other vintage headphone from my collection with „character„:

Has anyone heard the MDR-85?
It apparently wasn't sold in Japan, where instead they got the MDR-65 with a detachable microplug renamed as the MDR-75.
The MDR-94 looks to be the best of the MDR-** series but it's also impossible to find.

Yes, I have. I have one. Not in the TOTL group, strong lows, but not so exciting otherwise. I'm not sure about your preferences, depends on what you seek, but I wouldn't buy a pair for more than $30-40. Also the MDR-94 might not be the best of the MDR series. I am interested too of course and I haven't heard one yet, but according to the not so much info I know about it, it wouldn't reach the level of the series from a half decade earlier (some of the M series for example.). If you need more info, PM me anytime.Has anyone heard the MDR-85?
