Expanding my interest in music
try the following bands, and make sure to keep an open mind: * Porcupine Tree (brilliant UK prog rock - Floyd's spiritual successor) * Killing Joke (one of the originals - UK post-punk and throbbing rock/metal) * Matt Elliott (elegiac subterranean piano dirges) * Tortoise (beautiful jazzy... -
detroit techno
wow. Pom Pom released a CD? I remember buying a few of the early Pom Pom 12"s about 8 years ago. Didn't know who they were then and still don't know who they are now. Can't believe they've kept the anonymity up this long! Man, I need to get a copy of that. Will cosign that Gaiser's LP on... -

Thoughts on a basic Stax system?
Wow, well that's approx US$800 isn't it? Why are you looking at the 2xxx units when you could get the setup I mentioned (SRM-313 and SR-404) for the same price? I'm going to assume based on logical numerological progression that they're higher-end than the 2xxx setup.- minya

Thoughts on a basic Stax system?
What's your budget? Can you afford either the SR-303 or SR-404 intro system? (I forget what the models are - 3030 and 4040?) My introduction to Stax was an SRM-313 (I believe this is the amp that comes in the 3030 pkg with the SR-303's...) and the SR-404 earspeakers. Amazing sound. In...- minya

Recommend me some Electro?
Darker, harder... * Silicon Scally - Electrocide (crucial! oldschool! get it if you can!) * Anthony Rother - Sex with the Machines * Little Computer People - selftitled (this is Anthony Rother -- darker and harder than you would imagine it to be from the title.) * Carl Finlow -... -

Wow, it's been awhile since I've posted on head-fi. Good to see it's still around. Ads everywhere, but that certainly hasn't seemed to inhibit the site's popularity or success. My SR-007s have been sitting in a box for over a year, along with my Headamp KGSS. All I've used in the past 18...- minya

After I got my Stax rig, I didn't really need to learn much else about headphones, so my posting has dropped way off. I spend all my money on clothes now.- minya

GYBE, Explosions in the Sky, and Mono are pretty much the exact same band. Their albums are interchangeable. -

Apocalyptic RPG recommendations thread!
Planescape: Torment. Written by the same folks who wrote Fallout, I believe. Absolutely hands-down best computer RPG ever (yes, better than Fallout). Takes place in the D&D Planescape universe -- not at ALL the sort of usual swords/mage/trolls/dragons D&D stuff. More like demons/garbage...- minya

Out Hud
Better? No, I could never agree with that. "Let Us..." is not only more "disco" oriented, it's a much less complex and creative album. Whereas STREET DAD was imaginative, experimental, and eclectic while keeping a steady balance with post-punk-electro-techno influences, Let Us... pushes the... -
