Recommend a strip board for a dips

I need to proto a opamp buffer but never bought a proto board in my life (well i had the radio shack ones that lifted pads).  Any recommendations for strip boards (i think thats what  solder style are called) for mounting a dip socket and some regulators with caps?

Phase angles at cut off frequencies of RC filters

Should i even worry about them? Low-Pass Filters High-Pass Filters Input Capacitors for Headphone Amps Most of the time here we use input/output cap values that have cut off frequencies well above or below the human hearing range (2hz and 100khz for example) to reduce phase...

    Passive stereo summing circuit

Anyone have a circuit for converting stereo to mono for a small desk radio amp? Only requirements are its passive and only costs a few bucks from mouser or digikey. Just twisting the left and right together doesnt sound like a good idea

    Alternate volume controls

Ive noticed alot of new style volume attenuators out there and kinda wanted to make a discussion on the pro's/con's of each. Heres my quicky list. 1. AMB δ1 The δ1 relay-based R-2R stereo attenuator 2. Gold Point stepped attenuators Prices 3. DACT DACT audio attenuators 4. The ebay...

    Power buffer for a mini3

Im venturing into power amps and had an idea for the shop. My original intention was to build a 2-3 watt tube amp for my desk speaker. However i already have a mini3/gamma2 combo box at the shop. I was thinking if i could some how build a power buffer (unity gain) to supply current it would...

So I saw this while looking for other things. LM4780 Olympic Edition Amplifier Kit [LM4780TDA] - $99.00 : hifidiy.net I know that the tube is a china junk and was wondering what to replace it with. Also does anyone know what powers it? It seems to have +-18v and +-25v in.

    Happy vu meter connection

Ok i have a old 1960's analog meter that i want to use. it is a 20ua unit with a dc coil of 1.5k. Since i just want eye candy i wanted to hook it up before the pot so i could tune it for full output at the dacs full output. By my calc thats 30mv in if im assuming i just need 20ua into a 1.5k...

Simple Inrush Current Limiter for power supply

Is there a simple way to limit inrush current without resorting to 10-20 components on a protoboard? Lets say i wanted to limit inrush power to 300 watts. at 120vac i would need a 48ohm thermistor thats rated at 2.5 amps correct? I could then bypass the mains with a relay. I could put the...

    Logarithmic analog vu meter

Ok i would like some eye candy for my next case. I have an old school mil spec meter thats 20ua. What I would like to do is have a simple circuit that progressively dampen the response as the signal gets louder. aka first half of the dial represents 20mw, then the 2nd half might represent 200mw...

    figuring out an unknown transfomer

So i inherited a huge transformer from an amp. the problem is i have no idea on how to ohm it out to find primaries and secondaries. It just has 5 wires coming out of it. I assume that means 1 set of secondaries with a center tap?

unity gain dc strait tube buffer / preamp?

Does such an animal exist? I just want tube sound from my normal amp. I really dont want caps in the audio path. Most of the tube buffers ive seen are high gain. I just wanted unity gain tube buffer to plug in line before my preamp. So far i havent found a tube preamp that i like that doesnt...

    stacking transfomers

Due to size constraints i cant fit a large enough transformer in my case. However i can fit 2 smaller transformers in the case to get the needed va. Would it be a problem to parallel 2 transformers and stack them either side my side or on top of each other for a single voltage source?

    Something other then hammond?

Are there any reasonable alum cases out there other then hammond that i can buy on the internet? Once the project needs like a 6x6x6 box or bigger the options are limited if you dont want it to look like a pull box.

    Connector isolation for metal panel

I gotta case i want to use, but it has metal end panels. Im having a hard time finding decent banana binding posts and rca connectors that are isolated, that dont cost $40 shipped for 2 pair. It seems your choices are cheap plastic nut posts, or ubber expensive ones. If no one knows of a good...

Im going to start my recable using the ebay special 24 gauge 19 strand stuff. I was wondering how to make the cable since its 4 wires and no jacket. Denoise a switching power supply

Im looking for a 12-14v 3amp min power supply for a power amp, but it seems they are all switching types. is there a cheap way to denoise these? When amb usb stuff gets power, they use beads and a cap, could i do something similar? Or maybe get a 14v supply and make a 12v regulator out of...

    AVGuide hates usb

Well avguide.com just finished up their six month review of usb audio. TAS 194: The State of USB Audio | AVguide I normally hang out in the diy forum but i was wondering what other people thought of this crap. He thinks a $500 6 foot usb cable sounds better then a $50 usb cable (guess...

    Mini3 SMT build?

Does anyone have a BOM for the mini3 that contains the most amount of surface mount parts you can replace? After the Ckkkiii or what ever build, my work says i cant use thru hole for side projects anymore. If i can replace the resistors with 1206's or something that only leaves like a half dozen...

    stealth install

Ok we happened to break one of these: Internal dimensions are 2.50" wide 2.25" tall and 5" long. I was wondering what would fit in it and sound good with a usb dac and some M-audio q40 50ohms? I think i can fit a mini3 but i was wondering if a cmoy or ra1 clone would be better.

    SMT amp?

I work in a small electronics lab and we are encouraged to have side projects as long as they are related to the tech we are building. Leave your amp on till the end of time?

If you leave your computer on 24/7 the only damage is the fans and the bearings. If you leave your tv on 24/7 you wear out the tube, and the super hot spots on the horizontal and vertical transistor solder joints. So if i have a cool running non tube headphone amp with a regulated powersupply...
