80$ earphones with mic
Ziv, have you looked into getting your iP595 replaced? Most likely they are covered under warranty. Just need to go to maximoproducts.com/support and submit an RMA form.- Andrew H

Headphone wires keep on breaking at the jack
Hi Blackbird0, What we have found is that the problem isn't so much the plug itself, but rather the interface between the plug and the knit cable. This is why we tried using a few different connectors, as you've noted. But in the end we found that the best solution is to do away with the...- Andrew H

Flat sound vs. "fun sound"...so flat isn't fun?
"...so flat isn't fun?" This is a great question. For me, definitely more flat = more fun. In general terms, "fun" means recessed mids (and often treble to a lesser extent). This of course manifests itself as heavy bass. I think the problem is that, in the portables/earphones...- Andrew H

Portland / Stumptown Impressions, 27th Feb 2011
... @Dev: Seems that we just missed each other. But our LCD-2 vs HE-6 impressions are very much on the same page. @Sachu: Thanks for getting it all going! But *not* for showing off your home setup. It's got me seriously jonesing to place an order to try out the "baby maggies" (like the...- Andrew H

Mike, I say go for the LCD-2s. They're a great frame of reference, which is never the case for customs, and hardly the case for universals. Yes, this is the "portables" forum, but so what? (And never mind that Alex and Sankar are my bro's...)- Andrew H

JH Audio have lost my JH16's and UE11's

JH Audio have lost my JH16's and UE11's
In my experience, USPS International is good for maybe a 90% success rate. However, this is shipping out of the US into other countries, so I can't speak for the reverse. For package deliveries within the US, they're certainly better than 90%, but definitely not 100%. Many times, a mis-delivered...- Andrew H

Request: Recommend a System from Scratch for $1200
Go to 32 Ohm and try the Audeze LCD-2. Then after that, see if anything else seems interesting at all. An LCD-2 plus a basic $250 dac/amp is likely to spank any mid-fi headphone regardless of the megabuck setup it's connected to. And it can only get better as you later upgrade the...- Andrew H

New flagship iem from sony!
Of course you want a transducer that can do 30khz. The good headphones (stats and orthos) go higher than that. A Kia Rio can go 103mph. A Bugatti Veyron can do 267. Which car is going to do a better job of cruising the open interstate at 90mph?- Andrew H

RE0's - am I missing something?
Warm. Neutral. Or thin. You only get to pick one. (Or rather, somewhere in between two of them, since they're all different points on the same continuum.)- Andrew H

3.5mm connector buttony thing?
Halk, to further clear up the compatibility, it seems that the i9000s in the US market are indeed using the "iPhone" wiring, whereas in Asia and Europe they seem to be using the "Nokia" wiring. These 2 different wirings are what caused the confusion. If you bought a UK model, it should be using...- Andrew H

Best smart phone with AT&T?
I don't miss flash too much. A much bigger issue for me is, for example, viewing H-fi on my iPhone, then noticing that "Save 98% at Musician's Friend!!" banner. Click on it, and all you get is the home page of their mobile site. With of course no (obvious) way to get to the deals on their ad...- Andrew H

New member, just telling you about me. Also, requesting some help :P
When I was 14, my best friend and I would ride our skateboards to the mall (back when high-end audio shops could be in malls), and ask to audition the newly-released Stax Lambdas (with the newly released Pink Floyd The Wall). We'd probably get thru two full sides (maybe 40 mins), and they didn't...- Andrew H

Best smart phone with AT&T?
Netflix on iPhone 4 is really good. Easily my favorite app. Just announced for Windows, but still nothing for Android. (Probably just a matter of weeks/months though...) Not having flash is a drag, although most flash is pretty lame considering the resources, so it's not that hard to...- Andrew H

Etymotic mc3 Review
Quote: My iBuds lack sparkle and boom too. So this makes them accurate and uncolored? And that Bosendorfer Imperial sitting in the store is quite capable of delivering big time sparkle and boom (depending on which end you're banging on). Isn't it the idea to be able to reproduce...- Andrew H

3.5mm connector buttony thing?
It seems that the standard (old-iPhone-compatible) single button headsets do indeed work fine with the Galaxy S line. And that all (5?) models are wired the same way. Sammy does make some models with the Nokia wiring (mic and gnd reversed), but the SGS are not. For using with a PC, you'll...- Andrew H

RE0 vs. Etymotic mc5 mini

Maximo, great customer service
Hi faisal, this very much sounds like a broken connection at the plug. Which is not really anything to do with the cable itself. Please go to the Maximo support page and enter an RMA request. It's no problem for us to send overseas, just that unfortunately the shipping can take 3-4 weeks longer...- Andrew H

Suggestions on a Sound Test for Headphones.
Pretty much any of them should be within your stated budget. The Esser Audio one is good. And it allows you to save to wav files, so you could still create your own test CD if desired (or convert them for playing on an MP3 player). But plenty of others can be found easily by...- Andrew H

Suggestions on a Sound Test for Headphones.
Rather than a CD, another option to consider is a tone generator program. Then for things like sweeps you can customize the parameters to whatever you want (say, looping 200 to 20 hz over 15 secs).- Andrew H

Anyone recabled Maximo imetal im590?
Hi bboe, do you have the older version (with the silver metal plug), or the newer version (with molded plastic plug)? The newer version has a softer cable, that is less prone to kinking. If you have the older one, normally we will replace it under warranty if/when the kinks cause fraying in the... -

Neutral IEMs
I would (and have many times before) suggest ER4S for mixing. I don't think you can get anything more analytical for the price. That said, I do not consider them as flat as others here. (To me, an LCD-2 is pretty damn flat, and these do not sound like an LCD-2.) But just like with NS-10s...- Andrew H

Earsonics SM3 fall apart
Doing any sort of self-repair or mod, beyond changing the eartips (or cables, but only if they're replaceable in the first place) is an almost sure-fire way to void your manufacturer's warranty. Probably not a good idea for a $400 item. (And don't think the mfr won't notice if you try even...- Andrew H
