Dark Star from the new VC stabilized sets...
O M G!!!

Edit: just seen that is from the old batch and the new ones aren't up yet but still... Damn, they are pretty! Can't see myself replacing my Desert Ironwoods though.

The previous stabilized batches are all Osmo, so hypothetically the Osmo cleaner and refresher is the best to use on it, it only comes in giant bottles unfortunately. You likely could use the birchwood casey shock sheen and conditioner but I haven't tried it yet to get a smaller amount of similar stuff. Also Mohawk penthouse is more than fine too if you have that already, but I have found the osmo product to bring more sheen and color back to the wood.@zach915m which of these to use on the stabilized wood...or does it matter...thanks for any info
This is what the ZMF guide says on the website to use - just not sure if it for stabilized wood.

Not sure where I heard to maybe use this

I already have this would this work ? I use this on my Ori and also used it on my Cocobolo Atticus when I had it.

Or do the stabilized just need wiped with a dry cloth ?
We are doing some sets in the upcoming batch in a modified tung oil, with this finish the Mohawk will work great. The type of finish will be noted in the documentation you get with the headphones.

For sets with the Osmo finish, is this the wax we'd use to maintain the finish and clean them?
https://www.midwest-flooring.com/co...ts/osmo-liquid-wax-cleaner-3029-clear-1-liter
What is the equivalent "hardness" of the stabilized wood?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wood_stabilization
“Material properties of stabilized wood varies by specific species and type of stabilization process used, however in softwoods and soft hardwoods, the improvement in strength, hardness and durability can be dramatic. For example, Poplar treated with MMA increased specimen density by 2.2 to 2.6 times[1] with gains in hardness of approximately twofold (using the Janka Hardness Test).”
I did a quick search and haven’t been able to find any other sources but Wikipedia that talk about this so take it with a grain of salt. Using Ambrosia Maple as an example (not sure exactly the type of Maple is used for the stabilized sets), the wood has a Janka rating anywhere from 700 (The Wood Database) to 1500 (ZMF Website). Assuming the stabilizing process roughly doubles the hardness rating, the stabilized VC may theoretically have a rating between 1400-3000. This would put it anywhere between Camphor and Maple Ambrosia on the low-end and between Cocobolo and Ironwood on the high-end of the rating per ZMF Wood density scale.
Would anyone be able to confirm if the stabilized sets sound closer to a hardwood (Ironwood) vs a lighter wood (Monkeypod)?

And yes - stabilized maple sounds much more like a harder wood than a softer one as it has less decay and more speed.

It varies based on the amount of dye used, if the set is single or double dyed {two colors} and based on the original set of wood. They sound the most alike Olive and Leopardwood to me in terms of sound. What's the janka hardness is on the stabilized sets?

Does olive or sapele have a quicker sound?

Thanks! Without revealing any specific details, how will the hardness be on this upcoming 4/30 batch?

I haven't met many people who simply like or dislike the verite based on density. Preferences towards one or the other for sure, but nothing that would make you like or dislike the headphone. Thanks! Without revealing any specific details, how will the hardness be on this upcoming 4/30 batch? Also, if I've ordered the Olive and end up going with a stabilized set, can I simply change my order over and pay the difference?
The density on the stabilized sets doesn't vary enough so that you'd be able to tell a difference unless you were going back and forth between two sets for a good period of time, so definitely get the one you like the look of.
Also remember were talking the attack and decay of the sound on a very minute level, the frequency response stays the same regardless of wood.
We cannot transfer any current orders to stabilized, they are sold on a first come first serve basis only when released.

Ah ok, thanks for that clarification. So right now I have an order for the VC olive that I placed on Friday. If I end up going the stabilized route on 4/30 (provided I can get it before it sells out

Cool I may want to use with an Xbox, which would mean I'd need to amplify a 3.5mm analog signal.
Do you leave that Monoprice plugged in while gaming?
I think you would have to basically sell your current olive wood order? Again I may be wrong, but since you already placed the order for the olive wood then it’s yours unless you sell the future headphone to someone else. Then Zach would take your name off the owners card and transfer that to the new owner who bought the order from you. Pretty sure that’s how it would go if you already placed an order for an olive wood.Ah ok, thanks for that clarification. So right now I have an order for the VC olive that I placed on Friday. If I end up going the stabilized route on 4/30 (provided I can get it before it sells out) , am I able to simply cancel the VC Olive order without any fee/penalty?
