Snagged these beauties within the first 10 mins of the sale - really looking forward to checking these out! Coming from the HD6XX which I've had for 4 years. I tried and liked a few planars (HE-6SE, Sundara) but once I built a Bottlehead Crack (usually run Tung Sol 7236 & RCA Clear Top) I lost interest in the bright, clinical-sounding planars.

Love the look of this set - If you're coming from the 6XX, I'd recommend grabbing a set of the Auteur Perforated Suede pads as well, I found that pushed these a little more towards that warmer 6XX sound (but way better).

You are in for a ride!

To me the Auteur Classic is a 6xx with better treble clarity, way way way better bass impact, texture and punch, a different level of spacial qualities of the sound. All of this without any trade whatsoever, and I second the Auteur Suede pads as they tame the sparkle a little bit.

^I wouldn't say the chances are very slim. If this latest drop has taught me anything it's that a lot of good models are still available days after! Yes, some models that certain people really have their eye on will go immediately, but there will still be good options available for a while after. If you don't fixate on one particular model you have a good chance of getting something.
^This, first time doing these drops and maybe I am in the minority here but I find all of them to be amazing looking in their own way. If I couldn't get my top pics I would still leave very happy with any leftover after the initial hour or so. Fear of missing out is a thing but there are so many great looking options I think if they arent gelling for you to wait and see.

If you like the HD6XX, you’re going to love the Auteurs. I did the same as you, no matter what I tried I always sold everything else and went back to the HD6XX as that was the only headphone I can listen to for a long period of time without feeling fatigued. The Auteurs are everything I loved about the 6XX but better in every regard.

So true, I'm handing my 6xx to a friend now that I have my AuC. I just switched to the suede pads after 3 weeks of using the standard pads and I completely agree, they make it even better

This whole thing is stressing me out. I could save 100 bucks by buying one tomorrow, but I'm not really feeling the stock looks. But if I wait for the stabilized versions, the chance of actually buying one are veeery slim.
I feel this but I'd say it's better to hold out for a release with aesthetics that you're more enthusiastic about. Even outside of stabilized/resin releases I'm sure there'll be other releases with different woods at some point, plus future b-stock drops with different woods that will allow for some additional savings. At least that's my plan - waiting for Hot Cup Summer or even next ZMF November or some other LTD release

I wonder if the Custom shop will be limited to certain models or across the line. I can imagine it can be “work” … and not dissimilar to art - any custom commission means the exact appearance is subject to individual variation from the nature of hand manufacture, wood and resin.

On another note, can always ask.

I wonder if ZMF would ever consider a tour of their Bokeh.

If they get big enough they can offer a tour of their headquarters where they show you how they build their headphones and you can pick up your custom one there for a small fee of course

Or do a small vlog/photo package where they take you thru the whole process of building your headphone. All an added option as part of the custom Workshop.

That would be top level luxury end game option.

Had a custom celluloid pen made by a US manufacturer with humble beginnings as a wood and pen turner before he made it big as an online retailer.

He live-streamed the manufacture from the blank and we chatted throughout the process. Unforgettable experience.

Wasn’t top end luxury either. But how cool would it be to be able watch and talk about your personalised headphone being made.

It’s been a fun month. A CO and AO on order to add to the collection. Already have the cable to match.

Plug for Norne and his hybrid SC5. The synergy is lovely.
