Switching to the Suedes helped for me. I have the Thick pads and by themselves I did not like them, preferred the suedes over them.
However yesterday I put on the mantle mesh and the thicks and it sounded really good! Totally removed any of the treble issues I was experiencing. And it felt like resolution went up for me.
The mantle sounds really good with the Thicks that I haven't been tempted to try swapping pads yet. Gonna give it a few more days of listening before pad rolling.
Interesting. To me the mantle mesh while definitely dampens higher frequencies, do take away a little bit of resolution.

To me it felt more like instrument separation was more defined and less on top of each other (if that makes sense). Hence why I probably perceive it as more resolving.

Also possible that the brightness I was experiencing was overpowering, and now that its tamed a bit then its more balanced overall for me that I perceive it as more resolving.

Nice... Love the grain on your Caldera!!

What type of wood are your VOs?

Not to ignore the beauty of the other three... :)

African Blackwood. Somethign about that wood always appeals to me. There is hint of complexity behind the black sheen which I love.

So YOU'RE the one hoarding all the Grumpy Gooses (Grumpy Geese? Grumpy Goslings?)!!!

Zach definitely should make more black & white ebony lol. They are just simply so artistic to look at.
100% love my Black and White Ebony Atrium Open. If there is a gorgeous one of it for Caldera, Bokeh, or Auteur Classic at Canjam NyC not sure I could resist haha.

My thick pads just arrived today. Need to listen to them for a few days before I decide whether I like them.

Unsurprisingly the clamp force is tighter with the thick pads compared to the thin. One thing I've never totally understood -- do I want a tight seal? I know with the Abyss the idea is to avoid a seal and when I had the Susvaras, pulling the earcups from my head greatly enhanced slam. Should I be aiming for a tighter or looser fit with the Caldera?

Tighter better. Although even with my thickest glasses the sound not changed much (unlike Verite Closed that sensitive about this matter).
