ZMF Caldera - New Planar Magnetic from ZMF!

I've decided to give the Caldera a second shot.
Hoping that my current chain will serve it better than my last.

Maybe this time I will have that "ah hah" moment.

Still love my Calderas very much. These are just wonderful headphones. They also respond very well to changes in amp choice. Which one did you use before, and which one will you now be using?

one more note - there's an unusually high selection of pads for these headphones which change the sound profile quite a bit. Get yourself 3 pairs or as many as you have patience to test, and play around with them (thogh suggest couple of weeks patient burn in to start before getting the base line set).

enjoy!

Favorite solid state amp (or tube if there's a special pairing) for Caldera, go!

I’m trying to find a good amp/dac pairing around $1K (or less) with Caldera that vibes well with metal, hardcore and death metal. Would to love to hear if anyone has any thoughts.

I’m still waiting on my Calderas to arrive so I’m doing research in the meantime.

I currently have the Nitsch Pietus Maximus but haven’t been able to find much about how they sound with Caldera.

Cool, thanks! Haven't heard any of his amps yet.
SS: Wells Milo (by a hair over V281 ... that doesn't happen very often)

Tube: Icon Audio HP8
Another vote for the Icon Audio HP8. That's been suggested as a fave for Atrium too. I've yet to hear it. Why do you like it so much?

Let us know what you think you when you do!

What made you prefer the Ferrum?

Not directed towards me, but the 3FN circuit lacks the current for planars. OOR would be a much better match for Caldera by a long shot

3FN would be best for Atrium and Focal Clears though

Cool, thanks! Haven't heard any of his amps yet.

Triode Strapped SET have a more linear in the extreme frequencies to them (i.e. more transient, punch oriented, slightly less even sounding in the mids than 300B tube amps like the Envy)

I don't have much to compare it to, but honestly this SIT-3 and Caldera pairing is incredible. So spacious, so harmonically rich, very textured but rounded bass, with surprisingly no noise floor to be heard of despite it being a power amplifier. While I am sure there are other great options out there, I don't find myself feeling like there's anything missing from my experience. The midrange is incredibly realistic to me, preserving timbre while also being extremely musical.
