ZMF Caldera - New Planar Magnetic from ZMF!

Can you give Vicarious by Tool a listen for me on the Caldera? How tactile do the intro guitars feel (first 40 seconds)? And does the brief drum solo at 2:40 sound compressed at all?

I ask about the tactility because the LCD-5 has that in spades. And I've once you get used to headphones that move air so precisely that sounds feel like they're physcially hitting your ear, you can't go back. The drum portion I ask about because most more affordable headphones can't render each drum hit - it just sounds blurred together. Hell, even the Meze Elite can't render it well to my ear.
I’m gonna do some pad rolling tomorrow so I’ll add that to my playlist and repot back!
Don't jinx me! I just sold something on the classifieds :cold_sweat:
I think this was likely an issue with a specific local distribution center

I hope they allow Black Grills for the remainder. (Crossing Fingers)
Is there a big weight difference between black grills and stainless?

Kingwood scheduled to arrive in NYC on Tuesday, but they are already a short distance away in Newark, NJ. I don't want to jinx it, but I'm hopeful I'll get to hear what the hype is about a day earlier than expected!

Holy crap the suede pads....

I used to think the Susvara was unbeatable for classical music but the Caldera+Suede pads is a game changer. Probably the smoothest transitions from mids to treble I've ever heard.

We use them for about 30 minutes to make sure everything is good and we run an acoustic check both measurements and aural.
Just out of curiosity, how long do you guys burn-in the headphones before sending them? @zach915m

I saw in one of your videos that you have this burn-in setup in the shop where there are >10 headphones connected up at a time playing music to burn-in the drivers. Is that process only 30 mins?

@zach915m Which pad has been your favorite?
He said just a couple of pages back that the stock pads are stock for a reason, but I'd wager he doesn't release pads for the heck of it...he obviously likes the way they all sound. A good question would be for what type of music? What audio chain? Heck, what mood are you in? Check out @heliosphann 's pad write up, he's the resident pad guru.

Years ago I used to let them sit overnight or longer, some users who didn't believe in burn in didnt appreciate the longer wait time and as we grew it started hamstringing shipping times and production. I do think our dynamic headphones benefit a lot from burn in, the jury is out on planars. Right now we just play them enough to make sure everything is working correctly.

The Caldera is the one headphone we make where I don't have an absolute clear preference. On most headphones my anatomy has me choose the auteur pads over universe as a typical use, but for the Caldera I have used each pad pretty happily for extended periods of time as it seems the overall character isn't as effected as much as with the dynamics. Though the thin and thick definitely take them further towards warm/neutral. On most days I have used the stock though by defacto of what's on the set at my desk.
