Oh cool! It's a feature i never used before on my prev rockboxed goodies.

Yeah give it a try! It's really neat. They designed it so people who were visually impaired could use it, but then it ended up being popular amongst people who used it in their cars, so they didn't crash while operating DAPs

If you pick a neat voice as your default Windows 7 or 10 synth voice, like the Brit gal, your RB'd DAP will get her as well. You make all the required choices from within the RB installer. Play with it and you'll see what I mean.

It's weird, I know, but after a lot of trial and error, I honestly think the X3 disconnecting itself and beginning the auto-update while you're coping is due to trying to browse the filesystem while copying.

Every time I started a copy, stayed in the folder I was in, and did not access the device otherwise, the copy would complete safely, then I could change directory etc.

So if you want to update music over USB, just be sure not to access the device' filesystem until your copy is done.

Hello I purchased a new xduoo x3 dap a couple days ago and noticed the firmware was 1.0 on it, so I went to the xduoo site and theres is a 1.1 update available so I downloaded it and followed the instruction but it does not show up when I go to setup update menu .I put it on a sp 128gb micro sdxc card which i formatted to fat32,.The file is in winware zip ,I tried unzipping into a folder and still did not work any ideas what I am doing wrong.

Did you get the update to work yet?

The firmware update when downloaded from the xDuuo site (http://www.xduoo.com/xduoo/EnDownload.asp) is a rar file (X3-V1.1.rar) that you need to unpack to expose a zip folder (update.zip) which is what you copy to the root of a properly formatted FAT32 (4096 bytes per sector)* mSD card.  This is what is meant by xDuoo's somewhat confusing instruction to "Put the update compression file into the SD card."

The english instructions on what to do from there have been posted several times, lastly here:

Simply put, turn the X3 on, Press Back (or Home if you have an older X3), then press Prev or Next until you highlight "System Settings", press the large botton right button (Play/Pause), find "Firmware Update" and again press the Play/Pause button.  That should do it

*  Windows will not allow formatting in FAT32 of storage devices greater than 32Gb.  EmPathWalker posted about Ridgecrop Consultant's free guiformat.exe (http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/guiformat.htm) which allows devices like mSD's with capacities greater than 32Gb to be properly formatted in FAT32 with 4096 bytes per sector.  It's what I personally used too and is highly recommended.

And as an aside if you format in FAT32 and it is NOT 4096 bytes per sector you will get a "Update Files Not Found" warning when you try to Rockbox your xDuoo X3.

Not sure if that's such a deal considering a lot of us got the x3 for $88 last week during the Ali anniversary sale. And their normal price is around 90-110. Heck even Amazon w/ two day shipping is $120
