But then something about the firmware not being user upgradable.

mmm. the tool has instructions and the thing to use to upgrade it so it looks like it's definitely user serviceable [ but couldn't see any firmware either. emailed service[at]xduoo.com and asked re tag and shuffle all folders. It also contains instructions in english and hopeful screenshots with x2-v3.0-E.fw and dates of end of Jan 2015. (and earlier v2.0)
Color me hopeful?

ps slightly more options on just bass boost would be good too

LOL That\s hilarious - can you imagine the software not being user updateable? If the software can be updated this would be a software update, so unless you need a hardware upgrade first I don't see such a claim plausible.

I think its misinformed information, never have I heard of a player that cannot be updated in this era.

I can ask Penon who associate with XDuoo and find out for us tomorrow.

Put this to rest.

After some days I'm really ahppy with X2.

Had problems with about 1/5 of my albums not playing, problems was with some additional tags(composer, ripping software etc), quick editing with DBpoweramp and everything works now.

You should seriously be considering X2 just for Havi, the soundstage, air and separation is far above anything this price should be. I've been listening all afternoon, usually I'd move onto something else. $55 for X2, $65 for Havi, $110 for some pretty brilliant sound. I'm surprised Twister didn't mention it, as he tested Havi for power requirements with X2. For some reason it sounds quite lean and overly clean, for those who like semi-bright presentations its a sure thing 100%.

I picked up the Havi because I saw them for a good price and wanted to try with some newer sources.

.

It was just a quick test for power requirements :)  Now you got my attention!!!

Love B3 P1, but always had an issue with a fit.  Spiral dots kind of solved that problem, so have to do more testing.  Considering I'm a review whore (just saying how it is lol!!!), I always run into a problem with too many toys too little time...

Another point to support @H20Fidelity mentioning of X2 + B3P1 synergy.   I remember when Havi B3 ProI became a talk of the "town", a lot of people were looking for a portable cheap amp to drive them to a full potential.  So everybody jumped on Topping NX1 bandwagon just for that purpose.  Now, instead of spending $40 on amp which you have to carry along with your Clip+ or some other mp3 player (and forget about smartphone use since NX1 has an awful EMI), you just buy $55 X2 which is going to eliminate a need for an amp to drive B3 P1.

I've had to stop listening to give my ears a rest, was a pretty epic X2 / Havi collaboration the last 12 hours. Of course, there's going to be limitations to a $120 total rig, but considering you'll pay that for an IEM alone and IMO still come short in most cases what the Havi / X2 provide That's pretty good going. Plus like Twister mentioned X2 has the power to do this quite well without an amp.

I know I have said before and H20 said about Havi but do not overlook the Soundmagic P21 (picture above) the sound is punchy and clear...highs sound lovely and detailed. My best pairing so far.

For sure, that's what it about. Finding great pairings that are affordable, slowly working out what sits well with X2, testing it's potential.
