Will This Be Called The Westone "Epic" Tip?

I wear the Shure large olives (have 3 dots on them). Medium olives are too small for me. Based on feedback in this thread, should I get the medium/black or red star tips? (one size down). Or could the large/orange work? Anyone have both Olives and Stars to compare sizes?

I would suggest you get the 5 pack that includes all of the sizes. But I used to use the Comply medium tips or the Shure medium olives and found the small (blue star tips) fit perfectly. Since the Star Tips are silicone they are a lot more durable than the Comply form so the assorted sizes makes more sense but dollars to donuts you end up with the medium.

I wear large in pretty much every tip I try. With the Star tips, I discovered that my ears canals aren't the same size, so I use one red and one orange (on 14 different IEMS from Shure, Westone and Earsonics). So, I agree that the best strategy is to try and assortment first.

Was impressed when I found that their fit kit (assortment kit) includes a pair of each size for both the STAR tips and the TRUE FIT tips. So 10 pairs total for only $14.99. Good value to me. Should be fun to experiment with and see if the Olives have finally met their match on my SE535's.

After several bike rides, weight lifting sessions, and just sitting around...I'm sure the Olives have met their match, and then some! But it's not the STAR tips I'm enjoying, it's the TRUE FIT. The STAR tips don't stay in my ears all that great, any size. My other silicone tips - Shure triple flanges - do a better job of that, but they deform after just a few sessions and lose their ability to seal. May try the STAR some more later, but overall I'm not thrilled with any silicone tips. Even if they seem a little easier to use, the sound blockage doesn't seem as great as foamies and I feel like I get a little more bass out of foamies.

The TRUE FIT are amazing because of one great thing - they are huge. The large size is much longer and bigger than my large Shure Olives and that's what I'm using. Actually using the Orange (large) on my left ear, and through trial and error found that the Red works best for my right ear (the Red is also longer than my large Olives). The seal is incredible and the sound blockage is the best I've ever had. These things go deep! I notice that when I go to pull them out. The Olives come out pretty easy vs. these true fits that take a little tugging. Another example, when I used to wear the foamies during bike rides, I would wear a head band over them also to further block wind noise. I don't have to do this with the True Fits, the wind/sound blockage is VERY strong. Overall the TRUE FIT feel very similar to the Olives (material wise) but the shape is much better for me.

So if you want to try some foamies that go deeper than Olives, try the TRUE FIT. Get the kit so you can try the different sizes. Roll them up of course before inserting, same as other foamies. I can't recommend the STAR tips, but others seem to do better with them. I'm still a fan of the Olives, I think they are very good, but pretty sure these TRUE FITs are another level up.

Would you say that the Westone foams are more durable than Comply foams? I love foams in general, but the replacements don't tend to be on the economical side if they're constantly being replaced.

The True Fit foams have sort of a film on them to help repel dirt a bit more so they should be a little better than the old style regular comply

does anybody have an idea if the star tips will fit the nozzle of the rockit r50's?
I don't own a westone IEM, only shure se215 and rockit r50. the nozzle of the rockit r50 is wider than the shure se215's.
is the westone similar to the shure or the rockit?

May 25, 2013 at 1:17 PM Post #177 of 207
The Shure  SE215 is a 2mm nozzle
The Rock-it R-50 is a 3mm nozzle
The Westone 2 is a 2mm nozzle

I have Ety ER-4S which is 3mm and Westone 2 and I thought I have mixed and matched tips.

I went on Comply's web site and compared the Rock-it tips to the Shure tips and it said you could use the same ones.

I am in the process of doing extensive A/Bing between the different tips in the fit kit, after which I will return to post general impressions.

I'm also in the UK, so may consider selling/posting the tips that I will definitely not be using to other UK peeps - if they are interested!

I've purchased the 20 piece kit on Ebay, the shipping was much less expensive compared to what Westone would have charged so hopefully it is a good deal. Can't wait to hear what these tips sound like. I am definitely in need of new tips, the triple flanges I'm using look pretty second hand and I don't like the grey mushroom as they sound pretty sibilant and lack a bit of treble due their short length.
