I have had and heard plenty of brands over the years and enjoy my beats but butthurt is common with popularity these days

Oh no, not this 'butthurt' again. It is painful I believe. You are saying I need me some Beats to relieve me of this condition no ?!?

Not even What Hifi could give the urBeats more than 2 stars in their recent review. They are pretty generous normally with Dre's  products

More 'serious' British mags like HiFi Choice, HiFi News and HiFi World don;t waste paper, ink and their reader's time with these toys.

No not everyone needs beats when sound signature is a preference but with how enjoyed they are hating on them just sounds like butthurt common to see on the net.

I wouldn't say they are generous with beats on here and consider reviews from some other sites to be more neutral.

As I said I find the bass just right as drummers and bass players so often do, despite how some others may feel in your review for example. Which given the sound signatures popularity we consider butthurt. Not that there is anything wrong with a minority of people enjoying less bass, other than some people acting childish over a brand or sound signature which always makes me laugh

Well... ;)

This thread always makes me laugh. So anyway, I was looking for cheaper but good Basshead IEMs for my phone. Checked with the Basshead IEM thread and ended up buying the XB90EX for $81 (also Hisound Wooduo 2s for $53 but those haven't arrived; Massdrop--UGH!).

And...while it's always dangerous to go from memory, the XB90EX's seem to be Beats done right. Seriously though, solid bass impact and nice, clear mids and treble. Enjoying these a lot.

I laugh too but only over how childish some people can act over popular products or in this case a market leader

I returned the sony xb50 their newest model while keeping the urbeats which I feel go a bit louder and have a design I like better/smaller. Which comes in handy with skateboarding.

Sony does good work but I like beats and jbl better for my audio and this way I'm supporting american company's when I can. When so many prodcuts come from overseas these days. Like my sony ps vita which cost me $100 just for the 64gb memory card.

I do have a pair of v-moda's bass freq's somewhere too and they are even smaller and lighter even with a bigger driver 10mm,  but the urbeats sound quite a bit better with a 7mm driver

That would be 'market leader' in sales only. Also just how American are Beats?? Buy a Grado if you are going to play the patriotism card!

That is the only way we determine market leaders in business by how much a product is wanted/enjoyed when competitiors have the responsibility to be competitive.

beats are seen everywhere here as the birth place of rap, so bass focused/tuned headphones/speakers are more common. I preferred this level of bass before rap was around though.

Never seen someone with a pair of grado's and would see as a niche brand as such which I tend to avoid. Though they look nice and would certainly given them a try if I seen a pair.

Oh, I gotta post in this thread, I gotta get this off my chest.

So I go to Apple Store like 2 weeks ago and listen to beats solo 2 I believe, it was a $300, wireless, over ear headphone. I know beats usually don't sound good, I remember listening to beats studio when they first came out and how uncontrolled the bass was. So I put these on and listen, knowing full well beats sound quality is pretty sub par, and I was legit SHOCKED at how BAD these headphones sound.

I don't know what it is, maybe I've been listening to more and more good quality sound, but these are just so SO bad. And not sound signature wise, I mean objectively, clarity, separation, these kinda stuff are just so incredibly low quality. I was in a pretty crowded store tho, so maybe that had something to do with it.

It caught me so off guard because some the more well known YouTube reviewers were saying they're actually pretty good now. I don't know what's going on, but yea, I'm pretty much done taking any of their opinions at face value, lol.

Before this experience I never considered myself a beats hater, I think they look great (and have absolutely zero issues with people buying headphones based on looks), I also think they have done a LOT for the entire headphone market, so I gotta respect them for that.

But I was legit a little pissed off when listening to them, they were UNEXPECTIDLY HORRIFIC, with msrp of $300!!! Holy crap! But like shown in the post earlier, if you can find these for $80 at least it's a little more understandable. Id still call it over priced, but that's prob cuz I just have zero interest in them. I don't know why they were so expensive at Apple, they were some kinda special looking colors (similar to sennheiser momentum on ear) maybe that's why. I don't know.

Funny thing is, I'm a bass head and a hip hop head, got 2 12's in my car and I stay slumpin!! I was under the impression that given my preferences I should at least think these are ok, but my god, no, HOT GARBAGE!

Anyway, sorry, I just had to let that out. I wanted to post about it that day, I saw the beats solo thread, but I don't wanna do that, just trash them in a thread for beats owners, that ain't cool or necessary. But since this is a hate thread, I had to, lol

But to any owners that enjoy the sound of these, hey, more power to you. We all have our preferences, who's to say who's right and whose wrong. They def look sick as hell too, which is something I value

Beats are a reminder that with a big enough marketing budget, one can sell anything.

Beats are competitive with sub-$100 headphones. Above that they are way overpriced. The headphones I know are the ones I've used or use currently: HD 448s, DT 770s and DT 880s. The HD 448s were just under $100 when I bought them. The Beats I've listened to might be better for the higher end, but everything from low-mid and below was just this detail-less mush. A boomy wall of sound that's inexcusable with the music I listen to, which is mostly classical. I suppose it might suit a Hip-Hop fan, but that's sad. But then there are my Beyerdynamics...comparing them to Beats is like comparing a flat HDTV with an old black and white CRT. I've borrowed my office mate's Beats, and the difference is laughable. What also struck me is that while he paid for the noise cancellation model, my 770s, which are closed, do at least as good a job at noise attenuation, and the Beats owner himself said that because the Beyerdynamics HAVE mids (!) the need for noise attenuation is less.

In a world where you can buy X2s, DT 770s/770s, HD 600s, 7xx, etc. for $300 or less (the HD600 representing the most expensive of this group)--in a world with the SHP9500 at less than $100--there's no excuse for Beats. And if one really wants something that looks good, the obvious choice is the Sennheiser Momentum, which by all accounts brings serious sound quality to the table.

What other category matters?

Someone else in this thread put it best:

Head-Fiers are interested in two categories:

1. Bang for buck
2. More bang for more buck.

We recognize gear for being good or best at a given price point (we can honor Koss PortaPros and Audeze in the same breath), and we accept that if we pay more, we should expect to get more. We also tolerate the idea of diminishing returns: It's ok in our world to spend 2x on a headphone that sounds better than a headphone that costs X even if it doesn't sound  2x better.  But spending as much or more and getting less is unacceptable.
