Why the Beats Hate?

This is exactly what I meant by prejudice. It's easy to read between the lines when Beats is involved.

Exactly. Anyone who looks at something like the Solo 2s and doesn't think they belong to be in the discussion is incredibly biased and not giving them a fair shake. But, I'm sure if they were made of wood and had a "classy" name, they'd be a forum favorite.

The problem with those who claim that "beats is a fashion accessory" is that people don't buy it for the looks really - people buy it because everyone else is buying it and therefore they want to have it too. Honestly, if you got all the celebs to wear barney grados everyone would buy it too.

It's the same with the sneakerhead industry - besides for pricing a $40 shoe at $300, many of the most expensive ones just look ugly - so forget fashion, it isn't that either. What is it? IMO, it's parroting at its prime.

Great subject for a fashion forum; really no place on here when there's vastly better made and yes still even better sounding ones than the incredibly game changeingly super amazing Solo 2 believe it & for a little less money, as shocking as this might sound. Also they are not that attractive,  in fact they make me physically sick even thinking about them. Nothing but nothing sums up the vein, self obsessed, materialistic mediocre and shallow modern world we live in. Just my opinion. mind

$200 Beats headphones actually cost just $18 to make

Beats headphones, known more for their style rather than their actual sound quality, cost significantly less to manufacture than their retail price suggests, according to a report from Bolt engineer Avery Louie that shouldn't surprise many.

Louie decided to tear down a pair of Beats Solo HD headphones, which cost $199 when they first hit the market in 2013. From the parts found within, Louie estimated that the total materials cost, including production and tooling of individual components, for these headphones and their packaging was just $16.89, or around 8.5% of the retail cost.

While this bill of materials (BOM) cost doesn't include the cost of research and development, labor, shipping or retailer margins, it goes to show just how expensive the actual components in a pair of headphones are. For example, the two speakers included in the Beats Solo HD headphones, arguably the most important components, cost just an estimated $1.80 in total to produce.

In his teardown, Louie also discovered a number of metal pieces that were used solely to increase the total weight of the headphones, making them feel more substantial. 30 percent of the Beats Solo HD's weight comes from four metal parts, which push the total weight of the headphones over 100 grams.

Louie's article describes in detail some of the methods Beats used to construct the headphones, and how the company managed to keep the cost of materials as low as possible. It's well worth a read if you're interested in the materials that go into a product such as this.

Not really worth £18 when you can get a set of PortaPros for not much more, way 'cooler' in a retro way; if you're into that.

Not entirely sure that this comment was worth grave-digging this thread for.

Because it shouldn't be allowed to die. There's just so much more hate out there. They (Beats) should not be allowed to get away so easily. They've no right to be on here other than a cause for ridicule.

Just love to hate
