Beyerdynamic T1. Paired with a Musical Fidelity M1DAC and M1HPAP it sounds good enough that I don't feel any need to upgrade any part of my system, and I can fully focus on finding and collecting the music. I'm sure there's a headphone, a DAC and an amp out there that would offer slightly better sound quality, but for now, and for the past 2 years, I've been perfectly happy with my setup and could call it end game as far as serious listening goes. In fact, I think I've grown to like it so much I can't see myself selling it, and if and when I decide to buy a new system, I'll keep this one. Next step for me is getting rid of all my cheaper headphones and buying one audiophile grade, easy to drive, closed back, bass heavy headphone that would complement the T1's, probably the Fostex TH-600 or 900.

I haven't changed my rig for a long time so I guess I'd reached my end game a while ago. A long Head-Fi hiatus certainly helps to cure the upgradeitis that plagues many here.

Having said that, I've just pulled the trigger on a Schiit Ragnarok. This wasn't driven by anything lacking in the Mjolnir and how it sits with the rest of my chain. It was more to accommodate driving speakers when I purchase KEF LS50's down the track.

So unless the Ragnarok is a horrid headphone amp and a step down from the Mjolnir, my "end game" headphone rig will be:

Audirvana+ > NAD M51 > Schiit Ragnarok > Draug V2 > HD800/HD650

I'll purge my Head-Fi account once all the pieces are in place.

  Headphone Only.....

Yup, forget them then. For 3 grand might as well buy Stax.

You know I think I'm gonna sell my amp and headphones that are in my sig.

On the contrary, I reckon planers are going to overtake 'stats essentially. I sold off all my Stax gear because I couldn't see myself with a $5k amp that I could only use with one pair of headphones and a $4k pair of headphones I could only use with one amp. With that money I could have a very competent speaker and headphone rig with a lot of flexibility. It's a pity, because the 009s are outstanding.

I really do wonder why nobody around here did not considered ultrasone signature dj as a end game headphone. It is amazing, and different from all, whilst giving the same resolution as most of all other end game headphones.

The Sig Pro (much the same pair of headphones) is basically an Edition 9 without the fancy metal, for half the price. Neither have the same resolution at any of the other pairs of high-end headphones I have here. They also get quite congested as you turn up the volume due to the construction.  The Edition 8s fixed some of this but the inconsistency in sound between individual pairs was a huge problem. It isn't like Ultrasone is incapable of making good headphones, but seem to have found a market, especially in places like Japan, that prefers bling over ultimate sound quality, so the prices push them well over what a lot of people here would consider. The cheaper Performance series that was more recently released was actually quite decent, for example.  Also, not to mention, they blew it totally with the ED10s, so even when the cheaper and better ED12s came out, nobody here was willing to take them seriously any more for anything more expensive than the ED8s. Granted, if you're one of those people for whom the S-Logic works very well, everything I've said will probably be moot.

However, you always can get a really really great sound from the SR009 without having to spend $5k.  The full-size KGSSHV is a living proof of that.  It is within 10-15% of the BHSE for much less money.

i only own dj one pro, and listened to signature dj and plan to buy it.

to put it in simple ways, for my ears it was almost the exact same thing as hd800, but with more bass, less black background, and a sweeter general tonality.

i really liked the sound, making ti my first choice, because i considered hd800 to be kind of.... i do not know, i guess that i wanted a more sweet tonality.

Detail retrieval, microdetails, air, soundstage and most of hd800 characteristics can already be found in dj one pro, signature dj being even better.

I also tested lcd series, and a few others, and i really need the treble ultrasone in general and hd800 has.

Also, i would also say that i tested hd800 with a lot of amps, from cheap m-stage to wooaudio tube expensive amps, i liked solid state much more, like hdvd800.

maybe it is me, or maybe it is not, i really loved hd800 too, but ultimately i need a closed back pair of headphones, and i cannot listen to anything besides ultrasone that are closed back, [maybe lcd xc, but it had a dark signature, not enough treble for me], i also listened to edition 5, and i liked signature dj more.

I'm at a stage where I almost have an end game setup, there are a couple more thing's I plan on getting but because they're not cheap, ( well one isn't ) it'd be next year ( at the earliest ) before I'd have the spare money, I could get cheaper pieces of audio equipment, but I'd sooner save and get the ones I'd really like.

Why is that? I think planars do have better bass at least, yeah? Well, I would have done the same thing, but like purk said, no need to spend that amount of money.

Nice one ;)

But not as nice as a Headamp BHSE or a DIYT2.

True. I am quite certain that the maxed out full size kgsshv is almost as good or not on par with the stock BHSE with the stock tube. The BHSE of course starts to pull away from the KGSSHV b/c you have the ability to roll tubes on them. The DIY T2 is a pinnacle. No weakness really on the DIY T2....you get everything with this amp. Just really sublime sound with resolution, warmth, killer bass, soundstage, and tone.

I own a full size maxed out KGSSHV and only heard the BHSE in meet conditions, but with the SR-009 I actually prefer the KGSSHV.  The touch of warm of the KGSSHV is good for the pairing.  I didn't know what tubes were in the BHSE.  The SR-007 is no doubt better from the BHSE.
